Thomas Edward Holmans

Born 1895 in Capel-le-ferne, Kent

Can anyone help me with finding out more details of the military career of the above.

I found British Army WWI Medal Rolls record for -
Name: T E Holmans
Regiment or Corps: East Kent Regiment, East Kent Regiment
Regimental Number: G-9143, 203522

Victory E/2/102B16 264Y
British ditto

Is anyone able to help me with more information about the regiment / service and where I'd need to look for details of medals.

Thanks,
Lorna

The medals he was awarded were the ones awarded to everyone who served in WW1

For info about the regiment.........google

As for further info about his service, if you can't see anything on Ancestry, where , presumably, you found the medal card, it means that his record was among the 70% of all WW1 records which failed to survive a WW2 bombing raid.

Those references on the Medal card - the E/2 refs, relate to the entry on the actual Medal Rolls. They would give the battalion(s) he served with , and then you could look at War Diaries for the relevant battalions to see what he would have been involved in. Some Diaries are available for download on the National Archives site.

The Medal Rolls, however, aren't online. You would need to go to the National Archives to look at them or get someone to go for you.

Thank you both for your assistance. Yes I did find the card on Ancestry. You have helped clarify a few things. I'll send my Mum off to Kew if she wants more information. ;-)
