Could anyone please help with the following? Have been able to trace my g-g-grandmother, Jane Parker's, departure from Plymouth, England on the 8th September, 1859 on board the ship "Percy". The ship arrived in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia on the 4th December, 1859. Jane was a domestic servant and unfortunately the domestic servants who were on the Percy aren't named on the shipping document in Hobart, although other passengers were named. Is there any way I can find her name on shipping documents out of England or are there other resources I should be checking? Have looked everywhere for ages but can't find anything. Can anybody help please? I'd be very grateful. Thankyou, Jan. |

More information, such as birth date and place, would help to find her on records |

Hi...sorry for delay in replying but was away from a computer. Thankyou for your replies. I found information on the Benevolent Asylum Sydney's website that Jane Anderson (nee Parker) arrived in Australia in 1859 on the "Percy". Jane "married" Charles Anderson in Tasmania in 1860 and I followed a trail which led me to the shipping information for the "Percy" which arrived in Hobart 4-12-1859. She seems to have left there in 1863 to go to New South Wales, Australia. Her birth details change often on certificates but on her death certificate it says she was 83 when she died in 1924 so would seem to have been born in 1841. Her birthplace was Cambridge, England and her parents were William Parker and Jane Sharp. William's occupation is noted on the d.cert as "farmer". Thankyou for any help anyone can give me! Jan |

Hi! Not sure how accurate our death certs are - as you say,English and Welsh ones are only as accurate as what the informant knew! The details seem pretty accurate on Jane's cert. It's only her age that seems to have changed from time to time. She was married x 3 - maiden name Parker, then Anderson, Abel and finally Thompson. She has been a very elusive ancestor but am pretty sure the info I have now is pretty accurate as I have certificates confirming different pieces of information such as marriages, deaths, children, etc. Jan. |

that certainly fits with the information on a tree on ancestry ........ even thought the tree has little documentation to prove the facts |

Not unusual yo exaggerate father bring a farmer, when he really was a labourer! |

It seems most likely Jane arrived as a servant of the Hon Capt Wm Langdon & his wife, who arrived on Percy in 1859 with 4 children and 4 servants! No other passengers appear listed with servants. |

It appears this Jane died as ANDERSON in 1924, aged 83, daughter of Wm (NSW reg 5497). Looks as though Jan has the certificate. |
