very many thanks AnnCardiff.

Looks like a visit to the City Library or Glamorgan archieves is my next step.

They are beautiful pictures and show a family of 8 - so I would love to identify them.

I have Kelly's for Cardiff 1970 - only two properties in David Street then, both commercial - 19 and 29/31

presumably all demolished when St David's Centre was built

Many thanks - there are at least two males in the photographs who appear to be older than 21.

Not quite sure what to make of the numbering. I have checked the photographs and they definately say 14.

However, I was told that my maternal greatgrandmother was a school teacher. I haven't been able to locate her birth and marriage - but maybe thats a new thread to look at,

The lady in the photos is the image of an aunt on my fathers side - so maybe I have been misled by that.

I will take your advice and try the City Library. Maybe there was a head tachers house attached to the school????

Looking at the 1911 census for David St there are houses up to No. 6 and then from No 18 onwards.

The enumerators list shown that there is a school lying between them !

Could that make any sense with the photo's ??

Thank you. A significant number of Streets in Cardiff were renamed by Lord Bute - so it has been intersting. Cardiff - especially the Docks are has changed so much in the last 50 years that many of the streets have been demolished.

I have cross referenced each surname in my tree against census info and there were no matches.

it's frustrating as I have several photographs of the same family - so am fairly sure it isn't a fluke. The lady of the house is the image of an existing aunt so I'm hopeful I will eventually identify them.

Re. electoral register. Usually you have to access these at the nearest main library, or ask for a lookup. Be aware that it will be very limited - while most men over 21 had the vote by this time, not all did until 1919, and virtually no women..

Hi,
not entirely sure which part of the site to use - so I apologise in advance if the more general chat section was most appropriate.

I have many historical family pictures which I cannot identify. Several are inscribed "14 David Street Cardff". I have cross checked all known ancestor surnames in the 1911 census - but cannot find a match for that address

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to obtain a copy of the 1913 / 1914 electoral list for this street?

many thanks
