Please tell us how you worked back to these two - seemingly unconnected - women

The names are too common for anyone to help without some proven facts..........

Have you given us their birth names?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 21 Mar 2013 15:17

1836 is pre-GRO, therefore the birth would not be registered

In any case, many births went unrecorded in the early years of the GRO, as, until 1875, there were no penalties for failure to register births

An idea of the problem if you don't give us more info

Brenda

Brenda Report 21 Mar 2013 16:24

No! But I do know that Henry Cowen and Elizabeth Fergusson are the parents of Mary Marira Cowen b1885 , but I'm not doing well on finding their parents, I have Henry Cowen - Elizabeth Ferguson also Thomas Ferguson - Elizabeth Gillender :-(

If '1836' is taken from a census, the birth would have been 1835/6

That census you added later.......can't be 1871

I've already posted it as 1881

EDIT

I see you've edited!

Looks like the 1874 Marriage Cert. is needed...

Brenda

Have you actually looked at freebmd to back up your statement that Henry Cowen married Elizabeth Johnson?

And where did you find the marriage of Thomas Ferguson to Gillender? WHEN did it take place?
