He was a farm labourer when he enlisted. Also in 3rd Battalion West Yorks regiment.

Served India 1898 to 1906. Discharged 7 March 1909.

Next of kin was mother Sarah Ann, at Water End, Clifton, Yorks. Also a sister Emily.

He was 5' 6" tall, weighed 143lb. Fresh complexion, brown eyes and dark brown hair. Had an anchor tattooed on right side of chest and a heart on the left. ELIZA tattooed on back and front of left forearm.

The record that Barry found on Findmypast has Charles Midgeley age 57 traveling with an Alma Midgeley age 50.

Last address in England was C/o. The Cumberland Hotel, London.

This same couple also travelled to New York in 1919 and 1928. He was a Manager and she was a Housewife.

They travelled to New York again in 1933. There last address at the time of the New York visits was Hollywood, Keighley, Yorkshire.

On FMP passenger lists there is a Charles MIdgeley b 1879 travelling from Southampton to Montreal 1936

I am looking for any info on my grandfather Charles Midgeley. I do know he married my grandmother Lillian Tolley in Woolwich, London on April 25 1908. He was 29 years old and a Bombardier in the Royal Artillery also in Woolwich. His father was John a deceased farmer. Charles went on to have 4 children one of which, Eileen, was my mum, she told me that he went to work at the Royal Arsenal, also in Woolwich. He was supposedly sent by his employer , sometime in the 1920s to America, and that was the last the family ever heard from him. I cannot find where he was born, any passport or travel info,or his death.Any info would be welcome
