If you buy his marriage cert, you'll find out if he knew his father's details, plus, the info about Frederick's occupation should help with locating him in 1911 census.

that 1911 looks promising ties with born in Suffolk but living in Essex .

And Great Blakenham came under Bosmere reg district so again ties with the Suffolk birth

Thank you. I have the marriage certificate which states his father's name, but he doesn't appear anywhere either, apart from where he lived in 1914. If I could find his mother's name I might be able to get a bit further, unfortunately mother's name is not on certificate. I don't know if records office would help on electoral roll?

Maybe his family lived in Essex for a time so he thought that was where he was born

so his birth reg would be the march qtr of 1887 this one fits and is Suffolk where he married and lived.

I am having difficulty tracking any info about my grandfather who was born 18th Jan 1887 and married Maud Durrant in 1914 in Lowestoft,Suffolk. There seems to be no trace of his birth on GR, he always said he was from Wivenhoe in Essex. I believe his father was Charles King, and that is as far as I can go. Can anyone help please?
