Thank you all for the interesting information about the Maitlands. I never expected such a wide range of information coming back to me. Perhaps I did not make it clear that these names are not connected to me in any way, I just want to reunite the bibles with their rightful owners. I'm sorry if I have upset one of you. I did not know I had posted this item on the wrong page. Being a pensioner and not "technically savvy" I did the best I could. Perhaps someone could tell me which page I should have posted this item on! I did try contacting someone on Ancestry about the Maitland bible but the link was only with a possible illegitimate child. I have tried the "Search Trees" way to find the right families. This is how I have already reunited 2 bibles. Thank you all once again for your detailed information.

There's a tree on Ancestry which says Lewis & Henrietta had a son Charles, born 13/12/1848, Marylebone, Middlesex, who died 07/11/1849.
As in earlier post, Henrietta died 1868. In 1869, Lewis remarried:

Hello Maureen, what a nice idea!
Sadly, it's unlikely that any relatives will chance across your post. However, have you used "Search Trees" to see if anyone else on Genes has any of these people in their trees? (There are quite a few who have an Eliza Panton of around that time)

Some years ago I went through a phase of "rescuing" family bibles from Second hand shops. I am endeavouring to reunite them with their rightful families. I have been successful with two bibles but still have two more and one prayer book in my posession. If anyone recognises the following names I would be happy to forward them for the cost of the postage.
Bible belonging to Captain Lewis MAITLAND, given to him by his nephews and nieces with the surname MAITLAND MAKGILL CRICHTON and dated 1858.
Bible belonging to Canon Hubert CURTIS born 28 Sep 1875, married Maud on 1st November 1902.
Prayer book belonging to Eliza PANTON, b.1873 Sutton, Essex from Charles WINES b.1870 Sth. Petherton, Somerset, married 1894 in Rochford, Essex.
