Looking to somehow marry these two up. Have Catherine, married to Thomas Chapman on BMD and on every census from 1861 onwards in Barton, Lancashire. But have also got a bereavement card which reads Ellen Hanson, died 20th January 1883 aged 77. Interred Barton Wesleyan Chapel. |

Thanks Helen, I had found Samuel as a possible husband, but could not find the 1861 census for Ellen (made mistake in original post, have Catherine on every census from 1871 onwards) Very pleased that Samuel is now confirmed as husband, though I wonder why Catherine is not shown on the 1851 census |

Forget the 1851 I posted, this looks like that Catherine in 1861: |

That is really fantastic, thank you so much. These seem to be really good leads, although they open up yet more questions. Castleton is very interesting as it is only about 5 miles from the Barton area. |

Yes, have now proved that these are different Catherines ... my Catherine does not seem to appear on the 1851 census, though I am still looking. |

There seem to have been two daughters called Elizabeth: one in the 1861 aged 11 and one in the 1851, aged 12: |

Potty - interesting one this - I cant't find John from the 1851 census nor can I find a 21 year old Elizabeth ... I suppose john could have died and Elizabeth got married, but the second Elizabeth should still have been on the 1851 as should Richard who is 15 in 1861 and Catherine who is 14. |
