I have a James Denovan born c1826 Stirling listed on the 1841 census along with John and Catherine Dennison (which I believe has been mistranscribed and should read Denovan) also listed is their daughter Mary Denovan born 1821 and Adam Mcquee born c1821 all Stirling.. John and Catherine Dennison (Denovan) are my gr gr great grandparents (their son James Denovan born 1806 is my direct line)Adam Mcquee is actually the grandson although just lists him as "boarder" same as James born 1826.. Adam Mcquee is the son of John and Catherines daughter Margaret Denovan...I think I see James Denovan on the 1851 census Lanarkshire with a David Denovan born 1816 Stirling (he is also the son of John and Catherine) only this time he apears to have a middle name of "R" which I think is Richardson!! I'm trying to work out if James is the grandson to John and Catherine or a nephew.. Since he appears on both census records with a relative of mine..Can anyone help?? :-(

Offhand, I would say these are likely candidates for his parents but his MC should have his parents' names.

Thanks guys...My James Denovan 1806 married Mary Leighton...I think I may have traced a death for a James Denovan born 1826 in 1893 Bannockburn..I'm hoping this will give parents (it should do) ;-)

Hi Nancy, Will be going to the records office at The Mitchell on Wednesday. Do you want me to look at the 1893 death cert? I know that you are aware of Walter Denovan's 1887 marriage to Jean Struthers who was the sister of my OH's great grandfather. I had already planned to look for info on their sons, James and John.

Thanks Anne, The James Richardson Denovan married to Annie Tait is the one I was working on...And think this is the one listed on the 1841 and 851 census with relations from the John Denovan and Catherine Jaffrey side...I'm now wondering if this James who married Mary Richardson is perhaps a brother of John born 1770. The odd thing about this is..My g great grandmother Margaret McDougall who married Alexander Denovan 1836-1871 named her daughter Margaret McDougall (Denovan) as she was illigitimate at the time of birth nad Alexander married her 3 yrs later..On Margaret McDougall Denovans marriage to John Gibson she had a middle name of "Gray" we dont know where this came from as it wasnt listed on her birth or death record..A red herring maybe, or just coinsidence. Will tack down James Denovan and Mary Richardson and see what I can find..Thanks Anne your a star. <3
