Yes it is the same John Thompson, think it was because his wife had taken up with another man and divorce was expensive then so he changed his name and moved to Cumbria then she was free to marry again she did this under her maiden name... oh what a tangled web we weave. lol |

I had seen that one from Liverpool and did wonder myself, but why did the sister Mary and Robert both put Ireland as birth place on the census's |

I am trying to find out if Mary Conway was related to Robert Horan (maybe aunt) but I am not sure how to find her maiden name or any way of finding out more about my g grandfather Robert. I know his father was Michael off his marriage certificate it also states he is deceased. I know his mother and sister were living with his and his wife Catherine in 1885 May. I have his sisters name from a census Mary Horan b 1863 in Ireland but cannot find his mothers name she wasn't on a census but a newspaper article tells me she was living with her son Robert in May 1885. Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be gladly received as I keep coming up against brick walls. |

Robert may just have been boarding with the Conways. I would imagine that there were a lot of people from Ireland in Lancashire at that time. |

Can anyone help, I know nothing concrete about my relative Robert Horan c1858( born Ireland I believe,) at least that is what is stated on census from 1881 onwards. On his marriage certificate 3 March 1881 it states his residence at the time of the marriage is 4 Park Road Preston. After the marriage at St Ignatius RC Church Preston. He is on the 1881 census as living with his in laws the Finns at 50 Higginson Street Preston. The couple living at 4 Park Road are Thomas Conway 1825 occupation provisioner. Born in England & his wife Mary Conway 1835 a cook. Born in Ireland they do not appear to have any children and I wondered if Robert was related to Mary as she is from Ireland but I don't know where to go from here, anyone help please :-S Heather |
