I am having no luck with tracing the death of the man the above lady married in 1919 - William Alexander Bass. Can anyone please help me to find one. Maybe the couple emigrated and that is why I am hitting the proverbial brick wall.
Merry Christmas
Jennifer

Do you know William's age when they married?

Edit - do you have the marriage certificate for either of their ages or father's details?

Flip Report 21 Dec 2012 19:04

Don't think that death is correct K - she was the wife of William Charles Bass, according to the probate record, and he was still alive at the time.

Could William have died young and Beatrice remarried?

His age in 1919 is the best help for finding a death even resulting far away from where you think it may have been.

2- Willam Alexander Bass married in the East End area.

1898, Hackney,
1919 Mile End.

The couple appear to have had two children and both stayed in the area for a number of years

Think one of their children Frederick W (William) Bass reg 1921 died in 1964, probate granted to Maria Adelaide Bass, his widow - but I can't see a marriage in England/Wales for him. Maybe Jennifer is right and they lived abroad?

Well, I'll happily waste my own on what I want to waste it on ...... !

Jennifer, for future reference, it's against the board guidelines to have more than one thread about a family - it get's confusing and as you can see people end up duplicating efforts.

Down the left hand side of these boards is a link called "My Threads". If you click on that it takes you to any thread that you've started or posted on. You find the relevant thread that relates to the people in question and then just add an updated request and it moves to the front of the boards.

Thank you all and apologies for duplication. But there are two William Alexander Bass's. The elder had 3 wives and I know about him. In fact the Hackney marriage that "K" mentions is to Harriet Herbert and it is the elder WAB. I thought I could find out about the younger one by contacting descendants of his marriage to Beatrice Rumfitt. The two are definitely connected. The deceased father of the bridegroom - Henry Frederick Bass (my grandmother's brother) cannot surely have had two sons called William! He had a William Charles in 1896 and I am beginning to think that the bridegroom could have been him - but why did he give his name as William Alexander?
Thanks again to you all. It seems I will never know :-S

As a last attempt to find out about this branch of my family I have sent for the birth certificate of what I hope is the other William Alexander Bass. When it comes I may be able to be sure that he is in fact a brother of Henry Frederick Bass. He is listed only as William Bass - so maybe just popped the other christian name into his signature when signed the marriage cert. and caused me all this intrigue.

jenVG Report 16 Jan 2016 16:29

The birth certificate came and it is not the same WIlliam Bass as the wrong parents rule him out completely.
I have reached the conclusion that the person who signed the marriage certificate (to Beatirce Rumfitt) was in fact William Charles Bass son of Frederick Henry Bass and Catherine Lydia Bass nee Court. Why he changed his middle name from Charles to Alexander remains to be seen. Any further suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks again all!
