I had relatives living in Acland Street into the 1930,s. The Street is listed in a pre war London A toZ. I can only assume that it fell victim to the redevelopment of that part of the East End post war or was "redeveloped" by German bombing during the war

Try this:

http://booth.lse.ac.uk/cgi-bin/do.pl?sub=view_booth_and_barth&args=536921,181563,2,large,1

Click on the modern map where Burgess St meets Thomas Rd, and then look at the Booth map.

Acland Street is two streets to the left of Burgess Street, with Walker Street inbetween.

If you use Leopold St and Burgess St as markers on both maps, it looks like Acland Street was under where the community centre and school is on the 2000 map.

Looks like Walker St and Acland St disappeared sometime during the 1950s.

You could try this site

http://mapco.net/london.htm

It has an 1897 map of London, amongst others and you can enlarge sections of them to try searching the Limehouse area.

If you can find it on an old map, you could then compare that with a modern one.

I am trying to find the location of this street. I have searched many maps and cannot find it anywhere. I know it is in Limehouse and in the vicinity of Thomas and Burgess Streets. Does anyone have any expertise on the old London streets to help.? I am planning a trip for my father to see where his ancestors were living in 1898.

Thanks
Dawn
