Have you considered that Thomas Brown may be your great-grandparent - maybe they didn't marry immediately as there could have been a problem with getting a death cert for her first husband? |

May be a bit late, but thanks to everyone who responded to my Bedson thread. I did eventually find William Bedson who I thought was my great grandfather and discovered that he wasn't. He did marry my great grandmother in 1881 and had a son James in the same year. My grandmother and her other brother were born in 1885 and 1884 respectively but guess what, William was killed in a mining accident in Iowa, U.S.A. in July 1882. Will never know who fathered my grandma, but never mind, makes things more interesting. Thanks again - Cheers |

I had a similar situation when researching my family - no death but the widow remarrying twice. Turns out the first husband (also a miner) had gone to US, and on to Mexico - although I never found his death. Could this be a possibility in this case - have you checked emigrations? |

Thanks for the replies to my plea. I have the census information for 1881 which was prior to the marriage and can only find one more William Bedson on later census info. but he too married again in 1888. Have considered that she may have lied about being a widow and will look further into this if I can she was away from her second husband and their 2 children, plus his 2 step children (my g/mother and brother) in 1901 and was living with the third man she eventually married in 1914. Will definitely also look further into the other birth entries and the death and hopefully will get an answer somewher. Thanks again for your replies, am very grateful. |

Mary could easily have lied about being a widow.............perhaps more than once |

Have you attempted to find him on the censuses of 1891, 1901? |

Despite all efforts to find out what happened to my great grandfather William Bedson born 1857 in Wrinehill, Staffordshire, the son of James Bedson and Elizabeth Massey I am constantly drawing a blank. He married Mary Keen daughter of William Keen and Ellen Carter in Newcastle under Lyne in 1881. Mary married again in 1888 to Thomas Brown and her status showed that she was a widow, however, I cannot find a death for William anywhere. Having left Thomas Brown to care for my grandmother and her siblings, Leonard, Gertrude and Florence she first lived with and then married an Alfred Aldersea in 1914 at which time she was shown once again as widow. Does anyone out there know what happened to my William or can you give me any tips on how to find out bearing in mind that I have been searching for a long, long time :-S |
