Sorry Ricochet I have just realised that I had'nt answered you but as you will see
by what I wrote for Yvonne with my original request when I put 1832 I had for some reason made a mistake, also going by the English census Alexander was
15years old so it would make him born in 1836, but I do have his baptism from
research done in Ireland and its 14th February 1836.
Sorry.
Jane.

Hello Mike,
Yes this is the same family I have had research done in Ireland and England and
I have lots of baptism records and birth certificates taken from children born in
England, my gg grandparents deaths and my g grandparents deaths. The names
are nearly all different for the first years they were in England I have got records
of all the English Census and the changes in name for both Robert and Elizabeth
are incredable. In 1851 they down as McMahon, then in 1861 it looks like Maghin,
( my mam Frances Maughan always got the name Maffan also my grandmother
Georgina Maughan ) some of the other family got Maughan when i was younger
it bafled me why this was so but its clearer now after seeing some of these names, By 1881 It was down as Maughan. I had the research done in Ireland which give me the baptism of Alexander in Comber Church of Ireland there oldest
son before the English 2011 Census which did state my gg grandfather was born
in Cummer which is the old spelling for Comber so that helped to prove some of
the History to me.
This is some of the names James MCMaghon bn: 30/9/1854
James Maffan of trimdon Colliery aged 2 yrs bur: 26/6/1856
Robert McMaughan
James Maugham ( I new this uncle he was in the Coldstream Guards ) name was wrong.
Quite allot of the children baptised in England are down as McMaghon, they did
have a big family but allot of them died very young.
On the birth certificate for there first child born in England which I have they have
John son of parents Robert McMahon and Eliza Menett thats in May 1848 so I guess that gives a big clue to when they came, Then i have James son of Robert
Maughan and Elizabeth MacKnight thats Durham 1861, I also have Elizabeth down as Knight on another certificate in 1856.
There is a certificate for Agness daughter of Robert McHuen and Eliza Minet in 1850 and I have another certificate in 1854 and she is down as Elizabeth McNett.
So it makes things seem abit better on Roberts death certficate he is down as
Maughan on the 8th September 1898, and on Elizabeth's death certificate she is
down as Maughan 19th October 1890, so if you can understand all the name changes Mike you will know what its been like trying to find things out about this side of the family. The MacKnight's has been a nightmare and the only one I could pin point down was thomas McKnight born in Ireland and he and his family
lived in the same Street as my family even to a daughter called Elizabeth McKnight. I bet you think what a mixed up mess that's what I think sometimes. I traced my g uncle Alexander , his wife and it looks like 2 children emigrated to
America I got paper work from there he was a miner in a place called Hazleton, and got some Census from there and the spellings were all mixed up there to.
I think I better not put anything more it will give you a headache.
Thanks for getting back to me.
Jane.

Hello Yvonne
I had some research done in Ireland and there was one entry in the baptismal
registers of Comber Church of Ireland between February 1831 to November1849 . The entry was of Alexander son of Robert and Eliza McMahon
of Comber. This took place on the 14th February 1836 and Robert McMahon was listed as a labourer. I have Alexander down as there oldest child. I feel they must
have come to England about 1848/1849.
If I have put 1832 some where in my write-ups I have made a mistake really sorry.
Thanks
Kind regards
Jane.

Hi calling any MacKnight's that may be able to help me.
My GG Grandmother Elizabeth / Eliza MacKnight is first mentioned on the English
Census 1851 with my GG Granddad Robert and there family under the name of McMahon, later the name changes to Maffin then Maughan. I think Elizabeth may
have been born in Ireland as on the English Census 2011 my Robert is down as
being born in Cummer, Ireland, this is the old spelling for Comber, Northern Ireland, Elizabeth had already passed a way by 2011 so all I have on some papers for her is Ireland. Elizabeth I think was born about 1818/1819, I do have
the Baptism of her first child Alexander McMahon from the Church of Ireland, Comber, I do know there are MacKnight's in Newtownards, and the only other MacKnight I have traced is a Thomas MacKnight who lived in the same Street as
Elizabeth with his wife Margaret and children they are down as coming from Ireland. I have tried to trace a link between Thomas and Elizabeth he is about 2 or
3 years older I wondered if he was her big brother and they all came over from Ireland together. They all settled in County Durham and the men were miners. I
seem to have gone round in circles with Elizabeth and have tried to find other folk
who are MacKnight's but havn't had much luck. I think the female side of the line is hard and when its Ireland it makes it harder still.
If anyone can help me with Elizabeth and any of the MacKnight relatives they would make me very happy.
Thanks.
Jane.

I am hoping someone can help me with the Irish side of my family, the above lady
is my GG Grandmother and came to County Durham, England about 1849/50, I
know she was in Comber, Northern Ireland in 1832 as I have a baptism for her son Alexander Maughan but then known as McMahon February 1836 Comber Church of Ireland. Elizabeth was married to my GG Grandfather Robert Maughan
but on the 1851 Census in County Durham, England down as McMahon then it
goes on the 1861 Census as Maffin there after Maughan. I have put information on the Board on the family under Paternal Family, but it is my GG Grandmother
Elizabeth and any of her MacKnight family that I am now interested in. I know its
very hard to get information about relatives from Ireland but hoping some one can
help me with her side of the family, hopefully some one still living.
Thanks
Jane.
