My dad has same story, born in co home cashel and went to st Patricks after being 'found wandering'. He was born in 1934, john Blake. He also went to industrial school in Tipperary. They must have been in school together. We have no info to go on and are trying to find some detail on his mother etc.... If you have found anything I'd love to hear.

Hi there, can someone inform me of the availability of the marriage and death indexes for Ireland from the 1930s. I suspect I am initially looking for records in the Republic of Ireland.

I am looking for a marriage for either Margaret Kiely or her son Patrick Kiely. Likewise, I am looking for a death but not sure where to start and the information on google is a little confusing.

And, this is assumnig the family stayed in Republic of Ireland.

My uncle birth certificate states that his mother was a domestic and the connection to a travelling family came many years later when my uncle returned to the town he was born and an old man said that a travelling family called Kiely used to pass through the town.

Help and advice is appreciated.

Thanks George! Much appreciated and very helpful. I find that particular family very confusing! So that is appreciated.

Also, can we look for Margaret and Paddy on the Irish death indexes?

Hi George,

Forgive me that is merely an oversight and if possible could you please forward the attachment? That is great so thanks.

I am working from home and my laptop and have been checking on my phone which is difficult sometimes. So yes, an oversight and I am sorry.

Hi'Peter,
If John couldn't find Patrick's birth, how is it that you mentioned the 5th Oct 1931 for his birth ?

Peter

Peter Report 8 Aug 2012 02:44

Hi Liam,

No I don't have John (Thomas) baptism but it has been seen and no further information was mentioned to me.

Also, a search was made by John for Patrick's birth certifcate but nothing could be found.

Does this offer any help for more information?

Hi' Peter,
Have you obtained John [ Thomas ] Baptismal Cert ? they can often give more info than a birth cert ie: God Parents, who maybe related.
Have you Patricks Birth Cert and if so was he also born in Cashel ?

Edit
A Thomas was registered in Oct/ Dec 1934 in Cashel. [ mothers maiden name Kiely ]
Given 2 different birth dates / names is it possible that John was the name he was baptised with

Hi there Peter - can I suggest you edit your heading to include the word Tipperary as we have two excellent Irish researchers on the boards and they will have a chance to spot this

Hi all,

I am looking for information on my uncle's family.

His name is John Kiely born 18th September 1934. His birth certificate states he was born THOMAS Kiely, born 6th September 1934, in County Home (form of workhouse), Cashel, County Tipperary. His mother was Margaret Kiely, a single woman from a travelling family.

John had an older brother. He was Patrick Kiely 'Paddy', born 5th October 1931.

In summer 1936, Paddy and John were found wandering the road in Cashel, County Tipperary. Their home address was given as Drish, Thurles, County Tipperary. They were taken into care, and sent to St. Patrick's Boys School in Kilkenny (1936-1944). Patrick also went there, but the boys had to leave when they were ten years old.

When Patrick was 10 he was sent to St Joseph's, Ferry House, Clonmel in County Tipperary. John only discovered he was Patrick's brother when he was sent to this school when he was 10 when he was admitted in 1944 and the priest said that Patrick had to look after his brother John.

I am trying to find more information on his brother Patrick and mother Margaret. Specifically looking for marriages and deaths.

I know it is not much to go on but John, at 77, really wants to find out.

Please can you help me?
