Thank you both, things to think about there.

The above are 'baptism' dates - children were not always baptised as babies so the actual births of those children could have been months or even years before.

William Brough baptised 1/3/1790 Trentham Staffs by Thomas and Hannah nee Fletcher

Elizabeth baptised 1785 by Thomas and Hannah .
sister Elizabeth on 1841 census with William and Catherine??

Daughter Catherine married Samuel Barraclough in 1850 her address was Buxton Street Ardwick

Just been looking at 1851 census St Thomas Ardwick Manchester the area of Buxton Street etc was very badly water damage so maybe that's why they can't be found!!

Thanks, dea, will make a note of those. Certainly the names would fit in. Though William's birth may be a little late.

I'm still waiting to hear from the Brough ONS man, who is away at the mo'. He sent me a gedcom but I can't get it to load anywhere. He sent me a link to a convict John born 1812 I think, who has listed the brothers and sisters that I have from the census, and the parents too I think.

His brother Henry's baptism also took place at the Cathedral in 1834 but his place of abode was given as Macclesfield.

I have had no luck finding them on 1851 but a lot of the census returns were very badly damaged so I presume theirs was one of them.

Thanks, Gins, I do have that. Some of the children were baptised there, at the Cathedral, despite saying in later census that they were born in Macclesfield. Some say they were born in Pendleton.
But it's William and his ancestry I'm looking for.

I now have this family, children of Thomas Brough born 1831 Manchester and his wife Sarah Ann Miller.
From their marriage cert, his father is William b about 1789, a gardener, probably not born in Manchester. Mother is Catherine Bolt or Boult. They married in Wilmslow 23.4.1810.

I have the censuses from 1841 onwards, except 1851.

There is a one name study for this family, I believe they were from Staffordshire/Cheshire but frustratingly cannot find them on that site.

Can anyone help me take the family further back please?
