Hi Jennifer,
I too am a gt gt gt grandchild of John through Thomas/ Alfred / Joseph Hobby in Australia.

I believe there is a clue in a last will and testament available on another site for Isaac Hobby who died in 1744. He mentions a dead (i.e. predeceased) son also named Isaac who has two sons, one also name Isaac and the other named John who would have been born between 1726 (parents were married in 1725) and 1734 when their father died. The wife/mother was Mary Harvey (in some places "Harrey". The family lived in Wimborne Minster.
I need to confirm all this but I believe the grandson Isaac was born in 1726 and was buried in Evershot 29th January 1796.
If I'm on the right path then this 1726 Isaac was the father of John Hobby baptised 11th September 1765 at Evershot.
It may take a little while to confirm or even get more evidence.

I posted (not very well, left half the information off!) on behalf of my 90 year-old cousin Daphne. She would love to have the link between the Hampshire Hobbys that John and Maria founded and the Dorset Hobbys.
She searched the record offices for years and couldn't find it.
Could you give me more information about the Ancestry Tree link?
Someone else has posted finding John Hobby son of Isaac and Anne Evershot Dorset 11 Sep 1765.

That's certainly our Maria. She inherited the bible from her mother, Elizabeth Hobby, but noone knows what became of it.
We hope to make the link between the branch of Hampshire Hobbys that John and Maria founded, and the Dorset branch.
Another kind poster has found John Hobby's possible birth in Evershot 11 Sep 1765 . So we are making progress.

When did the man die?

If you hope for links on GR, the way to find them is to look in search trees.

Although one assumes that Dowden was the daughter's married name - unless, of course, you know otherwise

The Hobby family after much seeking, can't get further back than John. He left a bible in his will to his daughter Maria Dowden, which may help with where he came from.
