Sorry, I meant this Sarah.

OLIVE, Sarah Daughter Married
1 years F 23 1888 Tent Stitching London Hoxton

Not the one who married Anthony Baldwin in 1866

My point being that just because Hannah has used the name Olive, she wasn't registered in that name .
so by the same token how do you know George was actually born Olive ?

As there is no birth recorded for George Henry Olive, you need to be careful not to plump for one which you think might fit.

So whose parents are Hannah, age 12 in 1891?

I bet George is the fella on the 1881 census "married" to Eliza - but I've not found a marriage.

What is Celia's maiden name?

I'm not seeing a way to prove who George's parents were.

Julia, just answer the questions please and we can try to work it out if possible..

Twice we've asked what your Grandmother's maiden name was.
Also who did she marry ( Hannah's father)

Julia

Julia Report 20 Feb 2012 22:34

madmeg, thats my problem. i can trace celia back as i have a paper trail but nothing for george! Hannah was born to celia and william maynard with at least 2 other kids. celias maiden name was howes

Julia, it would help if you put before us ALL the information you have already found, e.g. Hannah being the child of Celia Howes and William Maynard. What happened to William Maynard?

This isn't going to be straightforward as there is no apparent marriage to George, so no proof as to who his father was. But maybe, if we have ALL the information, someone will spot something that might give a clue.

The birth certificate you have for Henry and Sarah Olive's son doesn't name him as George Henry does it ?
.......... and would they call a son George Henry when they already had a son Henry ?

I posted the 1875 marriage

which is why I ask.....

William and Thomas Maynard were born before Cecelia married. Were they her husband's children or were they born as Howes ?

Julia

Julia Report 20 Feb 2012 23:07

So does George's name appear anywhere as George Henry apart from his death cert ?

Children's birth certs, marriages etc ... is he always just George ?

Julia

Julia Report 20 Feb 2012 23:15

the birth certi just said george. the death cert said george henry

Julia

Julia Report 20 Feb 2012 23:20

just george on childrens birth and marriages but named sons george and henry

Mike *

Mike * Report 20 Feb 2012 23:22

Then maybe whoever registered his death added Henry in error which would account for not being able to find a birth for George Henry.

He called his sons George and Henry after himself and maybe his father ( unless Celia's father was Henry ?)

The Thomas on the 1881 census posted previously must be this one...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THOMAS JAMES MAYNARD --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Event(s):
Birth: 12 JAN 1873 Hove, Sussex, England

Christening:
Death: 10 JAN 1961
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Parents:
Father: WILLIAM MAYNARD
Mother: CECELIA MOBSBY

But you say that there was a son Thomas to your Celia ?
When was he born ?
(still looking for them in 1881)
