Hi everyone
Im a little stuck and think hours of looking has just muddled my brain!
Im looking for family members of MARGERY GREEN born 1914 in stratford on Avon
Her mothers maiden name was SAVAGE
Margery has brothers and sisters as follows:
GEORGE WILLIAM GREEN 1905 ELIZABETH GREEN 1906 FLORENCE GREEN 1907 GERTRUDE ALICE GREEN 1909
The 1911 census shows all of the above living at 50 Arden Street Stratford upon Avon with an AGNES GREEN (b.1871) who i assume is their mother. I cant find a marriage certificate for a GREEN/SAVAGE marriage though :(
50 Arden Street was a workhouse and ive managed to get quite a lot of info about that from google
So far ive been unsuccessful in finding any marriage or death certificates for any of the above people! With the exception of Margery who married a ROBINSON in 1940 and died in 1989
Any help would be wonderful!
TIA

You have presumably arrived at the fact that Margery's mothers maiden name was Savage from the birth index or perhaps from Margery's birth certificate itself.
If Agnes Green was her mother perhaps she had been married before she married Mr Green in which case her name at that marriage may not have been Savage.
Could Agnes have married a third time which is why you cannot find a death for her?
Bearing in mind what appear to have been the Green family's circumstances in 1911 the children showing in 1911 may have been adopted out or even possibly sent to Canada as "Home children".

If Agnes was 40 in 1911 then it is certainly possible that her marriage in about 1902 was not her first.
Just a possibility:
Marriages Sep 1902 Green Arthur Rugby 6d 1023 Webb Agnes Evelyn Rugby 6d 1023

I remember 2 or 3 yrs ago Jonesey when you suggested the information about the "British Home Children" (I knew nothing about "British Home Children" at the time!) regarding 3 members (Children) of my family, and how right you were!
Fortunately........there was a happy ending for all 3 of them.

Hi all. thanks for the replies - i'll try to answer as much as possible
Mary = I know Margery is connected as she is my partners Grandmother and i know she had a sister called Lizzie and a sister called Alice
Jonesy - I didnt think that maybe she was married after Mr Green! I'll try and find out by looking through more records! And i'll ask around the family aboiut the first marriage - it seems that sadly those that are still alive that might know dont want to say for some reason!!! I wish the 1921 census would come round quicker!! :)
Could someone explain what Home Children are please?
Thanks

Lisa,
Time then I think to try a different tack.
The first thing to do is to obtain a copy of Margery Green's birth cerificate if you have not already got it. Obtain also at least one of the birth certificates of the Green children who appear in the 1911 census along with Agnes Green. Hopefully that will answer some questions such as was Agnes Green the 1911 children's mother, was she also Margery Green's mother and who was named as the father of each, was it the same man?
With the exception of the birth registration of Elizabeth Green the other registrations are indicated below. In 1911 Elizabeth is recorded to have been born in Newnham, Warwickshire. There are 2 places known as Newnham in the county. One was in the Rugby area (Where the 1902 possible marriage that I posted took place) and the other in the parish of Aston Cantlow which fell within the Alcester registration district. I cannot spot an Elizabeth Green birth being registered in either district in 1905/6.
Births Mar 1905 Green George William Bromsgrove 6c 376
Births Sep 1907 GREEN Florence Alcester 6d 725
Births Jun 1909 Green Gertrude Alice Stratford 6d 709
Births Dec 1914 GREEN Margery Savage Stratford 6d 1595
Hopefully if Agnes is the mother of Margery and the children do have the same father then that might lead you towards discovering what happened to the individuals.
You might also find it beneficial to obtain a copy of Margery Green's 1940 marriage certificate to see what details (If any) are shown for her father on that.
Incidentally there would appear to be a number of deaths and marriages in Warwickshire that could relate to the individuals who appear in the 1911 census including this one:
Name: Agnes Green Birth Date: abt 1870 Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1964 Age at Death: 94 Registration district: Birmingham Inferred County: Warwickshire Volume: 9c Page: 213

Hi All
Thanks for your help so far - just a quick update. Ive ordered Margerys Birth Certificate and hope to have this by the end of the week.
After looking further, i found some records of the inmates at 50 Arden St Workhouse and found that the childrens parents were Agnes and George GREEN. Apparently the children were admitted on 10/3/1909 by the NSPCC as the parents were in prison for neglect :(
Agnes Green was admitted on 22/3/1909 and im assuming that this was because she was pregnant as another child was born in 1909.
I still cant find any record of a marriage between Agnes and George Green. Nor of any GREEN marrying an Agnes!!
Does anyone know if it is possible to obtain prison records online for this Crime?
Anyone that could provide any further info would be great! Many Thanks

A further update
I have the birth certificate for Margery - there is no father named on the birth certificate! I have also ordered it for her brother - George William, as i thought since he was the first born he would probably be named on there. There is a George Green listed as the father and he is stated as being a farm labourer.
So, i guess i can be safe to assume that George Green wasnt the father of Margery! :-S
On margerys birth certificate it states mother as Agnes Green, formerly SAVAGE. Considering that i cant find a marriage record anywhere?! is it possible that she just changed her name to his? I think i have found her in 1901 as Agnes Savage - single and living with her parents. But the year of birth is 1867 rather than 1871 as on the 1911 census. I did check the birth records though and theres no agnes savage born in the area in 1871.....!
Any further help or thoughts would be great!

Hi Lisa,
I believe I may be add a piece to your puzzle with regards to "Lizzie" Green.
She was actually born Charlotte Elizabeth Green on 8 July 1906 in Newnham, Aston Cantlow (6d 731), Alcester in the counties of Warwick & Worcester. Her mother's name is Agnes Green, formerly Savage. Her father's name is George Green, a Farm Labourer. Her birth was registered by her mother, Agnes, on 17 August 1906.
Charlotte Elizabeth/"Lizzie" was my husband's, paternal grandmother. She married Harold Hayes on 6 Dec 1930 in St Margarets Church, Ward End, Warwickshire; with whom she had two children: John and Brenda. She died in November 1989 in Birmingham.
