Thanks very much for this. It is extremely useful and ties in with a significant number of stories which I have been told but unable to verify. |

I now believe that Bertha Bolt's name may have been anglicized and that she may have been of German origin and that her name may have been Bertha Mathilde Boldt/Bolte. |

I have now been informed by a source in South Africa that Bertha Bolt's first husband, Dr Davies, was a geologist with one of the mining houses in Southern Africa. I also understand that he died under suspicious circumstances on returning with his family to South Africa from England on a trip sometime between 1905 and 1912. Apparently while he was away he was defrauded of all his money. |

Thanks - the very limited information I have suggests that Bertha Davies was born between 1870 - 1885. |

I am trying to find out anything about my paternal grandmother, Bertha Matilda Bolt. I understand that before she married my grandfather William Warren Stevens she was married to a Dr Davies and had two daughters, Garnet and Diamond. After she married my grandfather in Durban, South Africa in August 1915 she had my father, Warren David Stevens. My grandfather was born in St Ives, Cornwall in 1878. |
