solved - big leap forward

hi Kath
thanks and I appreciate what you say - logic would tell me there is virtually no chance of solving this. However, although I'm fairly new to this I don't know whether someone has got this recorded somewhere. There may also be a clue in his name (eg Fincham is not that common). Was he baptised? possibly not, but if so, who knows what may have been recorded. School records, again unlikely to show anything, but all avenues I should check out.
Other courses to follow I'm not sure, but I will battle on and see what happens
regards Bryce

If he was illegitimate then it is unlikely that you will ever find out who his father was unless there is someone in the family who was around at the time who knew his mother and was given this information by her.

hi all

Looking for info on my late father-in-law Horace (Horrie) Rickerby. Born Feb 1923 and lived all his life in the Christchurch, NZ area. May have lived in Leeston in early days and in the New Brighton area most of his adult life. Married Lorna Jean Byers, Nov 1946 (New Brighton) and he died Aug 2001 in Christchurch.
His mother was Ellen Jane (Nellie?) but father is unknown (illegitimate)- would love to identify his father and help family research this line. Help please - major blockage for us
cheers Bryce
