Vardy Family of Dorset

Seeking information/help from anyone researching the VARDY family in Dorset. Most people with this surname in Dorset belong to the same family. I have two Vardys appearing late 1700s - early 1800s in Yetminster Dorset - Thomas bc1781 who married Sarah PAINTER in Ryme Intrinseca 1807 & William bc 1787 who married Mary BUGLER in Ryme Intrinseca 1810. Am assuming they are probably brothers. Have a possible father for the brothers in a Thomas VARDY bc1753 married to Fanny. Thomas & Fanny appear in Glanvilles Wootton & Thomas' burial is recorded 22 April 1825 GW but I can't get any information further back than this. A Matilda VARDY married Solomon MITCHELL in Pulham 1832 & she has to be related somehow. I 'd be hugely grateful to anyone who can help get the Dorset Vardys further back than 1753 or help link Matilda to William & Thomas! Not being able to get further back than 1753 I've traced the female lines plus the families who married into the Vardy family. William VARDY was sentenced in 1826 to transportation for life to Australia & I have traced his life here in Australia. He left a large family in England & I'd be interested in information from anyone who is descended from him & you're welcome to all the details I have on his life in Australia. The other brother Thomas is the the direct line of descent I'm tracing & would be very keen to exchange information with people researching this line or people researching families who married into the VARDYs.

Have you tried searching the trees on this site, to see if anyone has them on there? Just click on Search Trees in the dark green band.

You would be extremely fortunate to have someone who is working on the Vardy families just wandering by these Boards.

Thta's not really how the boards work.

There are a group of members who spend a lot of their time answering queries on the boards, using their expertise, subs to other sites, and knowledge of obscure sites. But we are not experts in one family or another. We just love the research, and trying to break down brick walls.

So you will get help from the "helpers", but are ulikely to get a Vardy family member.

Thanks to Penny & Sylvia for their replies. Have contacted people on the GR site with Vardy trees posted but so far I've been the one able to supply information rather than the other way around. My three big brick walls are:-

1. What is the parentage of Thomas VARDY bc1753 in the Pulham/Holwell/Glanviulles Wootton/Yetminster area? Marr date to Fanny? Fanny's surname?

2. What is the parentage of Matilda VARDY bc 1802 marr Solomon MITCHELL 1832 Pulham?

3. Looking for any potential siblings ie other VARDYS in Dorset born between c 1770 - 1800

I'm going backwards from Thomas VARDY bc1781 & William VARDY bc 1787 rather than forwards but am grateful for any help or suggestions.

Thanks Quoy. Had not checked this site before. Have registered & found a new piece of information for William VARDY I didn't have - great! Unfortunately only one entry for the Dorset Vardys so far. There are London ones & the Northumberland clan neither of which is related that I know of but it's a terrific site & will keep looking.

Dear Jane

I strongly believe that I am a descendant of Thomas Vardy (bc 1871).

He had a daughter named Elizabeth Vardy (registered as living in Guernsey in the Channel Islands) who married Thomas Carre. She sadly died aged 25 - buried on 23/11/1839. She had at least two children named aptly Elizabeth and Thomas Carre.

Elizabeth Carre (born 14/02/1837) married Benjamin Le Conte.
They had four children:
Emma Elizabeth Le Conte
Lydia Mahy Le Conte
Amy Dorey Le Conte
Ernest John Le Conte

Lydia Mahy Le Conte married Thomas James Bichard.
They had three children:
Herbert Le Conte Bichard
Claudia Vardy Bichard
Reginald Carre Bichard

Herbert Le Conte married Dora Edwards
They had two children:
Bernard Thomas Bichard
Doreen Bichard

Bernard Thomas Bichard married Dorren Tostevin
They had three children - my father and my two aunts

Please contact me to discuss our family further.

Jane last posted 5 years ago so it's very unlikely she is still looking for responses.

You could try and contact her by clicking on her name and sending her a message

If she isnt a member now she will still receive your message if her email address is still the same ,she can reply to a message but can't initiate one

Will my message go to her personal email or only her inbox on this website?

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 15 Apr 2016 00:30

The message will go to her inbox on this site

GR then send an email to the email address that they have on file for her.

If she still has that same email address, then she will get it.

If she has changed the address, then I'm afraid that the message will circulate in the ether and she will not receive.

There is no direct contact member to member, unless they exchange home email addresses via the internal system (usually referred to as "pms", for private message)

Keep checking back in your Sent messages to see if she has opened it it ......

Go to Messages above

Click on Sent Messages

If there is a green envelope to the left of a name, then the message has not been opened.

If there is no envelope, then the message has been opened, and you have to hope that the contact will get back to you.

She can reply to you if she has dropped down to Free status.

No response can mean several things ............

Email address changed and GR not notified

Member died or become incapacitated

Member no longer interested, for whatever reason.

GR never removes a tree except in the rare event that they have banned someone permanently from the site.

Apart from that, only a member can remove a tree, OR a relative or fried who has been given the necessary information (eg, password) and asked to delete the tree.

Otherwise, a tree will remain on GR for ever

Andrew .............

you might want to Search All Member rees to see if anyone else on site has Vardy's ...........

remembering the above problem :-)

Go to Search above, at the right

Click on Search All Member Trees

Enter Vardy name, and see if any possible contacts are shown.

If you do contact anyone, please do NOT use the automated message of Share Your Tree ................ write a personal message saying why you think there may be a connection between you.

A lot of members, including me, do not reply to messages that just say Open Your Tree without any explanation.
