If I go to http://www.findmypast.co.uk/
and take the link for the 1861 census
http://www.findmypast.co.uk/search/census/1861/person
In the blurb under the search screen is:
Known Issues in the 1861 UK census
A small number of permanent gaps exist in the 1861 census. "Read more about these known issues" ["link"]
taking this link gets me to
http://www.findmypast.co.uk/help-and-advice/knowledge-base/census/known-issues
where issues with all the censuses are detailed.

Looking at the 1861 census via:
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=8767
In the blurb under the search screen is:
Known problems with 1861 piece numbers:
Pieces from RG9 where one or more parishes are missing (we have SOME records for these pieces): ...1047...
However, they don't tell you what rg9/1047 covers

A look up of rg9/1047 at:
http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/
[at right]
CAMBRIDGESHIRE
Registration District 193. WISBECH
[main page]
Reference:RG 9/1047 Description:
Registration Sub-District 1 Leverington.
Parish: Tydd St Giles. Missing.
Parish: Newton.
Parish: Leverington; Hamlet: Leverington; Hamlet: Parson-Drove; Hamlet: (pt.missing).
Parish: Wisbech St Mary.

All the above is free.

Incidentally, https://www.camdex.org.uk/search.cfm is useful for resolving who wed whom issue in the GRO index pre-1912 in Cambs.

My grandmother was a Snushall ,her father was a William who Immigrated to New Zealand from England around the 1860's he could be out of that family, the Family name here has just about died out due to WW1 death of Henry Ernest Snushall and the other 2 males that never married.

Thanks for that Chris Ho. I am having a free trial on Ancestry at the moment (another week to go so am making the most of it). I stopped subscribing to Ancestry about a year ago as it was getting expensive the the amount I used it, so will probably try something else when Ancestry has finished.
Thanks again and good luck with your research.
Pat x :-)

Found on google Pat, usually comes up trumps, lol.

Have a look and see if you can get free trials of websites...
FMP has Cambs. in their Parish Records Collection, (although not all Parishes) Ancestry is good for London, and both have a Military section. (bit greedy I am, can't live without either, lol) also below link...

Thanks for that Chris Ho. I had no idea you could find information like that. I have often thought of signing up to Find My Past. Which would you say is the best out of Ancestry, Genes or Find My Past?
I suppose it depends what records you want to search, but what does Find My Past have?
Thanks in anticipation. Pat

They have me Snushalled!! :-D

Patricia

Patricia Report 22 Oct 2011 14:24

Hello PricklyHolly it is me again. Yes I have the 1871 Smithall one and that is correct.
Patchem - my Abraham was born on the 19.6.1854 in Tydd St Giles, Cambs.
As you say there are an awful lot of Snuishalls in Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk who are all connected in some way and the names Abraham and William feature in every generation and in families of siblings too, so it it a nightmare.
Thanks for everyone's help to date. Pat

Have you got the family all together in 1871, or the birth certificates, to know that they are the correct children, as there are other Snushalls around?
Thanks

Patricia Report 22 Oct 2011 14:01

Hi Everyone - I wonder if some kind person could find this family for me on the 1861 census.

Abraham Snushall born 1825 Tydd St Giles Cambridgeshire
Isabella Snushall born 1829 Sutton Lincolnshire
William Snushall born 1850 ? possibly Sutton
Mary Snushall born 1851 Sutton
Abraham Snushall born 1854 Tydd St Giles
Elizabeth Snushall born 1858 Tydd St Giles

I have searched and searched on Ancestry but without success. In the past the family name has been Snushall, Snushal, Snashall, Smithall, Southall, etc. I have tried allpossibilities but no luck.

The parents are still alive as father died 1896 and mother 1906. I do have all the other censuses, but not the 1861 so if any eagle eyed person can find them, I would be eternally grateful. Pat
