Spreading it out...............for ease of comprehension

I really need some help on my family from wigan as my great grandad / grandmother moved to Barnsley in the 1900s.

I've only got back to 1901 on the census with them.

They got married in august 1897 in Wigan their names were John Harrison 30 years and Catherine Derbyshire 20 years

he was born out of wedlock and her dad was called James Derbyshire because I have the marriage certificate but on the census they call themselves james/kate or Catherine.

Catherine also had a son before their marriage called john Derbyshire.

They had my grandfather in 1916 he was the youngest of their children and john/James was nearly 50 when he had him so both of them had died before my grandfather got married in the 40s

and he died in 95and never talked about them so now I'm really stuck

and my father would like to find out something about his grandad and grandmother.

Like I said anything before 1901 is a mystery their births etc don't know if thats because they kept changing names.

I do know there was family still in wigan in the late 40s because my dad remembers being taken there in the late 40s with his auntie when he was about 5 years old

any help would be greatly helpfull.
