Hi mgnv Thanks for info. I have accessed 1871 through to 1911 census, will study 1861. The parentage difference is the only thing I have at present to discount this couple. Will keep on. Regards Lynton

Hi to Interested Searcher's
This is an update of the 2011 profile on a Joseph Fisher from Somerset to Canada. After a break in effort I now seem to have 4 possibles with 2 in doubt. I am assuming that my Robert Fisher did know his birth parents names unless he had used perhaps adopted parents in Victorian marriage and death records.
1 - Joseph A Fisher b circa 1826 England, in Halifax Nova Scotia and married Johanna (Meagher?) in 1879 (perhaps no issue and she died between 1881 and 1891? (His parents are stated to be Joseph & Elizabeth which does not fit with Robert & Ann). (Census 1881);
2 - Joseph Fisher b circa 1811 England, in Kent Raleigh Twp who married Ann ? and had a son Herbert). (Census 1871):
3 - Joseph Fisher b circa 1837 England, in London Middlesex and single boarder with the Morkin family Innkeepers. (Census 1871);
4 - Joseph Fisher b circa 1832 England, in St Mary's Perth and married Nancy Aldridge in 1854 Beverley Gore District and had 8 chidlren as listed by yoher searchers. He later married Mary E Barnett in 1898. (His parents are stated to be Samuel & Mary Ann which again does no fit my understanding). (Census 1871).
Perhaps someone has more information on these possibilities.
Regards
Lynton

hi all
thanks lynski, astra, margee and mgny
you have all covered some of what i have found and added further clues which is much appreciated
my great g/father robert was from somerset. his elder brother joseph age not known, was supposed to have discussed going to canada
given robert was born circa 1836/38 he would have been old enough to understand in about 1852 his own decision to emigrate to australia
therefore joseph is most likely to have emigrated about the same time or perhaps a little earlier
a queens university 1871c for canada listing has 3 joseph's age 60 in raleigh, 34 (single) in london and 39 in blanchard. the latter fits the nancy scenario in 1881c of family search
so is he the brother of robert and i agree if he had children, do any descendants have information which links back to somerset
given robert was supposed to be an orphan and one of 11 children one could hope that some clue would come up as to their whereabouts in the 1841c
the parents were supposed to be robert (senior) and ann jeffreys of whom researchers have not been able to find a clue in somerset
heres hoping and thank you all
regards
lynton

You can look up 1871-1911 via: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/022-911.009-e.html
Use the LAC links for 1871-91, and AG for 1901. (NB look up Israel Fisher.) In 1901, Joseph's on page 11, line 16, so here's his Sched 2 (the house's schedule)
http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/1901/z/z002/z000095484.pdf [Addy is Thomas, St Marys NB St Marys is in Blanshard Twp.]
I don't see him on AG in 1911, nor 1851.

The 1901 tells us he is a widow and that he emigrated in 1834 so we won't find him on the English census records.

Have you any more information on possible siblings for Joseph??
How old does it say Joseph is in the 1881 census?
What are the names of Joseph's children - perhaps they could give a clue to his father's name?
How do you know to look for a Somersetshire link?
