Hello Jayne

Olive was my grandmother. We have quite a bit on the Gregory family tree you are interested.

ahhh and there I was looking for William N

the one in 1940 would make most sense ... there seem to have been two births to that marriage, in Wiltshire ... ?

there is one birth to the 1934 marriage, same quarter as the marriage

edit

Jayne you should go back to the other thread you posted in

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.page/board/ancestors/gregory/thread/1239392

and follow the advice to try to contact Christine directly ... it sounds like you two may be able to shed light for each other !

you may be looking for family of your father ?

sister Olive May's birth

Births Jun 1907
GREGORY Olive May Weardale 10a 326

the most likely marriage for her

Name: Olive M Gregory
Spouse Surname: Sanderson - James H
Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1931
Registration district: Weardale
Inferred County: Durham
Volume Number: 10a
Page Number: 553

and coincidentally two Olive May Sandersons both born in May 1907 died in Co Durham

Olive May Sanderson 1907 Mar 1988 Durham Western
Olive May Sanderson 1907 Aug 1997 Darlington

this is most likely the husband's death

James Henry Sanderson 1901 Nov 1984 Durham Western

so that Olive most likely died in 1988 in the same place

there seems to have been one child of that marriage; you can find the birth record at freebmd by searching for births with surname Sanderson and mother's name Gregory ( there is one birth in the same place as the marriage ) ... so that person would be your cousin if these are the correct people

Jayne can you clarify a bit what it is you would like to find out ?

I can't find a marriage of a William N Gregory to either a Phyllis or a Frances ! perhaps he married your mother outside England ?

there is a marriage in 1948 to an Ena, you can find the marriage at freebmd

( I prefer this direct link )

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

she had been previously married, in 1931, as best I can tell

Births Dec 1906
Parks Ena Victoria Camberwell 1d 867

she died in 1982

Name: Ena Victoria Gregory
Birth Date: 2 Mar 1906
Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1982
Age at Death: 76
Registration district: Cleveland
Inferred County: Cleveland
Volume: 3
Page: 1848

I don't see a death for her husband George H Claydon between the 1931 marriage and the 1948 marriage ( including in WWII )

The numbers against the record are the Volume (10a) and page (521) where the marriage is recorded. The marrige took place in Weardale registration district in the June quarter of 1903.

All the records births marriages and death) have a simalar system. They are used to order copies of the certificates

You can look up these covering 1837 to about 1950 for free at

www.freebmd.org.uk.

Sadly the certificates aren't free and cost £9.25 each.
