The WWI record has been digitised and the original is available at NAA RecordSearch. It definitely says 24 and 9/12 (9 months).

Yes I can't see why he would lie about that, or about his father's name or place of birth. Very odd.

It will be interesting to see what age he gives on his marriage cert. I notice he was 68 when he died in 1960, so still strange.

I have just picked this link up,
The Family are in my tree,
Unfortunatly the name changes from census to census

Started as Mander, then Manders then Maunder, Maunders, most that family were working on Farms and signed with a cross, on documents,

The marrage of Charles Manders and Rachel* Tomkins, 6.1884 Brentford Area,

Was miss spelt Tompkins, this is my mothers family name, and a great aunt to myself
And the Reg name is not always the same as there later name often the middle name comes out later,

Also some of the family forgot to register biths,
