It doesn't help with finding someone who had a relative there, but 145 Clive Road is mentioned on this site:

A couple of years have passed since I have used this site, now I have a bit more information about my Mother. We were in Cardiff at the records office and have now found out that she lived at 145 Clive Road Cardiff from 20/11/1924 - 21/9/1938. I am wondering if any one had a relative there at that time or knows anyone that was there. This is new info to us as the last time we were at the records office they told us she had lived at Woodville Road all her life, when in fact she was only there for the first 3 years.

I know she attended The Memorial Hall Canton Sunday School, as this was in the front of her bible.

Please can anyone help.
Chris

Hello,
Contact Glamorgam Archives, web address below. Cardiff Social Services have deposited all the Children Home's records with them; at least the ones that were not lost or misplaced.

thought I had stuck gold when I first found reference to 22 Woodville Road but it was you on a BBC website asking the same question!!!

however, I've had a dig around and found this site which will be of interest to you

Ely Schools site, 1901.

The schools were closed in 1903 and the buildings converted and extended to provide additional workhouse accommodation for adults, primarily the aged and infirm and also mild "lunatics". A row of children's cottage homes, known as the Ely Homes or the Headquarters Homes, was erected at the south of the site. From this period, pauper children were increasingly fostered out or placed in "scattered homes". In 1914, the union had children placed at homes in the Canton district (433-5 and 449-51 Cowbridge Road, 119-121 King's Road, 11-15 Romilly Crescent, 34-35 Victoria Park Road, 145-7 Clive Road), Grangetown (52-54 Taff Embankment), Roath (13-15 Northcote Street, 3-4 Church Terrace), Cathays (22 Woodville Road, 84-86 Whitchurch Road), Penarth (32 Windsor Terrace), Dinas Powis (Rydal Bank, Station Road), and Barry (15-16 Park Crescent). The union had a "receiving home" at 103 Cowbridge Road, on the south side of Cowbridge Road opposite the main workhouse.

Hi,Does anyone have a relative who may have been brought up in a childrens home in Cardiff. It was 22 Woodville Road (a large house) the years I am looking for are between 1922-1937 My Mum was there during that time and I would love to know more about the home. Unfortunatly she died 18 years ago and we have only just found out about this place. Hope someone can help.
