EDWARD CROSBY c.1690

Barry,

The Edward Crosby baptised at Sedgefield is not related to me/us. I have seen this one at Durham records office where I did all of my research. Our Edward was Christened much earlier. As I say it was the vicar of either Pittington Parish Church or the one at Sherburn House who wrote in his new register in 1696 that all his previous records in the old register were destroyed in the Church fire of 1696. I have a family tree of other Durham Crosby's who I am convinced arerelated to ours but I believe that due to the Church fire and the destruction of the fire, the link cannot be proven. Our Edward married in 1702/3 was a yeoman farmer who had a farmhouse built for him by Ralph Salvin around 1715 ish.

Give me a few days and I shall have all this on the website.

Barry, the only way Norman can see your tree is if you give him permission to. Click on his name to send him a personal message telling him you are going to give him permission to view your tree; then under Messages click on Contacts; next to Norman's name you will see a box with Allow next to it; click in that box and Norman will be able to view your tree.

Hi Norman,

According to previous reports we are linked. Edward was my Great x 7 Grandfather with Elizabeth Arrowsmith. I've put down 1680 as his birth, but, according to previous reports his Baptism was on 22nd.Nov.1696 at Sedgfield, Durham. Could you ask Genes Reunited for my 'tree' ? I might have some positive information.
Keep digging.

Barry,
I know that Edward Crosby had earlier married Elizabeth Arrowsmith in 1702 at Durham Cathedral as I am descended from that marriage. His later marriage to Ann Pruddus at the Cathedral also produced several children. Edward lived in York hill house at Tudhoe , built for him by Ralph Salvin - a local member of the gentry. Edwards was a GENTLEMAN. He previously lived in Sherburn as did another family of Crosbys. These crosbys were solicitors, surgeons and other local worthies. I have been unable to connect these to families. My research was ended because I was unable to find Edwards birth place and date, if you could help I would be most obliged. I should also add that it is my belief that Edward was related to this other Crosby family. Sherburn at this time had only a hundred or so residents, and the Vicar of the Church in the area where these people were baptised wrote in his new births, marriages and deaths register in 1696 that all earlier registrations were destroyed in a fire at the Church. What a shame to family historians.
Please contact me if you have any information.
Regards
Norman Crosby Chester-le-Street Durham

Hello Barry and welcome to the boards.

It's always worth checking the Search Trees box - above in the dark green bar - to see if anyone is researching the same family. In your case, there is one other person with Edward in their tree. May be worth contacting the tree owner.

Regards. Cx.
