Just to let you all know I found Maude - she married a chap called Foster Pelton in Malaysia and has had two children Foster and Doris.

EDIT:- this is possibly not your Maud(e), as there was another Maud Thirlwell born ca 1898, in Horton, Nortunmbrland, parents Joseph Thirlwell and Isabella Ann Mackintosh

Hi Chris and Alexandra.
Had a look for further records and found that the Passenger List I gave above is for a Mary Irene Thirlwell. She crosses the Atlantic a few times but is a cashier still at Wandsworth Rd later moving to Moorside North, Fenham.

How do I find any more information about Maude? :-S

She was born in Gateshead in 1904 and is the sister of my grandfather John Thirlwell.

I have managed to trace her leaving England to go Colombo on the Narkunda on 22 March 1932. My aunt thinks that she was married, but is single at the time of this journey.
