Rostrons in Blackburn

Hannah Report 4 Jun 2011 14:25

Hi, I'm trying to trace back my line of Rostrons.
I have Joseph living in Blackburn, born 1817 though it may be more like 1820 depending on different census records. I believe his father was William born c. 1791. Joseph married Elizabeth Fielding (1822). They had 6 children inc 3x James.

I'm struggling to find out more about William and then back beyond him. I don't have a name for his wife/Joseph's mother but it may be Margaret.

Any help would be appreciated. I'd also like to see if there is any link to Rostrons living in Bolton around that time.

Thanks

Maddie

On the 41 census he's aged 20, a shoemaker living with Margaret, aged 50, a servant. Remember on the 41 census ages of those over 15 are rounded down to nearest 5 or 0 so he could have been 20-24 making him born 1817-1820. (Which is what you said)

I am researching Rawsthorns of Burnley, Accrington, Haslingden, Preston, Bingley, Barnoldswick and thereabouts, and am just amazed at the more than 40 (so far) variations of the spelling.

If anyone is researching Rawsthornes (with final E) I have a stray birth certificate that I'm happy to share.

8 Feb 1897 Frederick Rawsthorne, at 151 Robinson Road, Preston, Lancashire (now Fulwood). Father Frederick Rawsthorne, Railway labourer; Mother Mary Alice Rawsthorne formerly Brown.

They married in the September quarter of 1892 at Preston. Vol. 8e Pge 890.

Mary Alice Brown's birth was registered in the March quarter of 1872 at Kendal, Westmorland. Vol 10b Pge 648.

Here's the 1901 Preston (Blackpool division) census household:

Frederick Rawsthorne, head, m. 30, ship filters labourer, born Preston.
Mary Alice, wife, 30, cotton mill ring spinner, born Kendal.
Mary, dau, 8, born Preston.
Isabel, dau, 5, born Preston.
Frederick, son, 4, born Preston.

I cannot pinpoint father Frederick's birth even though it says Preston. There are just so many possibilities -- but hey, he's not even my family, so I'll leave that to someone else. Genealogists of the future will have their work cut out when same-sex marriages are added to this already daunting maze.

Not sure why you have posted on this old thread penpal

If you would like help you should have started one of your own

Have you looked in the trees on here to see if anyone else is researching this family?

If the point of your post is to offer the unwanted cert..............it would be better to post a thread with a title reflecting that.

Also.............post the cert details to

Sorry! I thought the obvious place to say something about Rawsthorns would be on a thread dealing with that name. I didn't need help, Jax, I was hoping to offer it. There are quite a few frowning finger waggers on this community board! Lighten up.
