I obtained the death certificate on Chirsty Mackinnon - the death was witnessed by her son John Mackinnon of Lower Breakish. Her maiden surname was Stewart and her parents were Charles Stewart and Ann Macinnes.

I obtained Neil Mackinnon's brother's death certificate (1882) His parents were Chirsty Mackinnon nee Stewart and Ewen Mackinnon. The death was witnessed by his son Hugh a fisherman from Lower Breakish.

The crofting records at the Clandonald Centre at Armidale or records at Sabhail Mor Ostaig may be helpful in tracing the lineage back further but nothing is showing up in online parish record searches.

Chirsty Mackinnon death registered in Strath in 1856 aged about 90 ?? her death cert would give you something to go on.

I suspect Dunan is a misread for Drinan a small hamlet between Elgol and Torrin. If the Mackinnons were cleared from Suisnish it is likely they would move to Keppoch (by Drinan) and then on to Breakish.

Hi I think Eringobragh has found the correct family. Only because Mary Ann or Ann as she states in her marriage was born 2 July 1846. So that ties in with the christening of 27 July 1846, don't you think?
Breakish and Edinbane are areas of Skye mentioned in census.
It does seem quite difficult to work out Niel and Catherine as there appear to be hundreds of those names on Skye. Unfortunately they don't appear to have middle names which would have helped.

These certainly sound like the family. How can I find the International Genealogical Index. I did look on Scotland's People but struggled to find a distinct family connection with McKinnon/McDonald, also the census info for 1841 is quite difficult to read. Any further suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Just checking some details. In 1901 Scotland Census Ann resided in Haddington, East Lothian. Age 54-55. She appears to be deceased prior to 14 Feb 1902. I assume she died there, but still to check on that.
I don't know what siblings she had. That's one of the things I'm trying to find out.
My Niel McKinnon was born around 1823-1826 Breakish, Skye. He may have died prior to 1871 as he was deceased when Ann married in 1872.
