Roxanne

Roxanne Report 28 Jan 2011 18:16

I have Rosina E Pannell, however ive just added this to my tree in ancestry and it has come up with a different spelling, so l looked into it and have now got three different ways of spelling Pannell and have no idea which one is right.
I know the best way is to buy a cert but can anyone find out anything for me?

Its Rosina E Christopherson(married name).. the maiden names are Panell, Parnell or Purnell.
Born in 1945 oct, nov or dec in cardiff and married in 1965 in cardiff to a leonard.

Roxanne,

Are you saying this person has 3 birth entries? Each 1 in a different spelling?

Hello Roxanne, some of the information on your other Pannell thread is relevant to this query so it's best to keep all queries about a family on the same thread as it helps with cross-referencing.

You also have a few other threads about the same family from a few months ago.

To start up this thread again...

It has come to my knowledge that l might have been going down the wrong road here.
I have my mothers birth certificate that says her mother maiden name was purnell, however l know that my gran mother is called rosina Elizabeth but its the spelling that is the trouble.

Apart from buying half a dozen certificates, can anyone help me?

Roxanne, if your grandmother was Rosina Elizabeth who was your grandfather?

Going by your first post, is it Leonard Christopherson?

Roxanne

Roxanne Report 20 Jun 2013 19:02

Yeah

Rosina Elizabeth was born as Pannell, and married as Pannell. It's possible that it was just a mis-spelling on your mum's birth record - it happens.

Did your mum have any siblings? If so, have you looked up their births to see what the mother's maiden name was?

According to FreeBMD Leonard Christopherson married Kathleen I Davis in Sep quarter 1935

I won't post details of people who may be alive but did your mum have a younger sister who's name began with C? If so, the mother's maiden name for her is spelled Parnell.

Bear in mind that the indexes were copied from handwritten documents so typos happen. Also, it depends on how someone pronounced a name as to how it may be recorded.

Roy - that would be the parents of the Leonard who married Roxanne's gran.

Roxanne

Roxanne Report 20 Jun 2013 19:17

Yeah that marriage is my granddads dad.

Rosina is married to a leonard s j christopherson who is my granddad.

Marie, yeah she has a sister and lt says purnell as well..

Roxanne

Roxanne Report 20 Jun 2013 19:17

It's always better to be cautious about spellings but in this case it's just down to error and you're not on the wrong track.

If you're trying to work back and want to be 100% sure of the info then buy her marriage certificate and her birth certificate and cross check the father's details on there.

I take it she's not around to ask?

Roxanne Report 20 Jun 2013 19:30

Rosina is around unfortunately my granddad died last year.
However the big problem is, is that l adopted and it has caused some mighty rifts between family members to the end of that no one talks to each other.
