Hi everyone;

I seem to have two threads going at this time. Probably just my lack of experience. I do not want to cause people a lot of extra work. I have a hint of a marriage of John Claxton to Nancy White, 1848,York Co., Ontario. The name could be a misspelling or what some census taker thought he heard. I do know that according to the 1871 census, John could neither read nor write English. Means John arrived in Canada before 1848? Not sure about Nancy.
Some baptismal hints for a John Clarkson look inviting and they will give me an area to research.
Any other hints, suggestions, advice is always more than welcome.

At this point, I know all the children born to John and Nancy White.

I just have absoluely no information on John and Nancy, except John was born in London England, abt 1818, and Nancy was born in Ireland abt 1826 I have not come across a marriage record for John and Nancy in York Co, King Township but maybe I am just looking in the wrong spot. I felt that they were married in England and came to Canada around 1847/ 1848 as the firdt son Thomas was born 1848, York Co, Ontario.

Any sugeestions?

The 1861 census shows John, 45 and Ann, 43, both born England. Children all born Upper Canada (Ontario), living in West Oxford, Ontario.

I interpreted the posting the same as you

................. but after looking for a marriage in the UK, I looked on the familysearch site, and found the deaths of the "children"


From there I checked the ancestry trees


which, of course, may be wrong!

Robert, do you know where the first child was born and does it confirm the ancestry tree?

I looked on www.family search, and found deaths in Ontario in the 1920s for several "children" with parents shown as John Clarkson and Ann / Nancy White


I then looked on ancestry, and according to public family trees, an Abigail Clarkson was born ca 1857 Ontario, parents John Clarkson and Ann Nancy White

According to one of thsoe trees, the eldest child was a Thomas Clarkson, apparently born in 1848 in Ontario
