Frank owned a shop in Doncaster , one of their children is my grandad gilbert palmer born 1908 doncaster his son gilbert palmer born 1944 is my dad. I know it's a year ago since the last post on this thread but I thought I'd add my findings while tracing the Gomersall/Gomersal line of my tree. In my tree I have noticed that in different Census the spelling of Gomersall may change to Gomersal depending who filled it in. Try both when searching and then try and tie them back together.

Julia - yes I realised that Gomersall was a place in Yorkshire. I will try and follow that one up.

Hello Jane, did your father in law mean a person called Mary Gomersall, or a Mary from Gomersall which is a place in Yorkshire.

Yes I would agree thanks. However still don't know who Mary Gomersall was and my father in law had written down that was the name of his grandmother. Unfortunately there is no family now alive so I am stuck with just records

Very Confused! this lady according to family folk law married John Brown and had Isabella Brown )my husbands grandmother). However the Isabella Brown born Pontefract 1876 has parents William and Jane Brown. Isabella then appears inn the 1891 census (now saying born Leeds) living with her grandparents in Goole. Iknow she did go to Goole which is where she met and married Frank Palmer.
