Looking for any information on a gentleman with a surname of Dunleavy? who had an affair with Elizabeth (Betty) Johnston in the late 1940's, resulting in a child being born in Hampstead,London on October 1949, name of CHARLES. Dunleavy JOHNSTON.
I believe he was married, with four daughters. I think he lived in Glasgow.
According to family stories, my grandmother went to London to have the child, and she returned when he was a toddler.
My gran would never disclose who this man was or where he lived, so my Dad (Charles) has grown up never knowing who his father is. My grandmother never married.

If Mr Dunleavy paid your grandmother child support, there might be a legal agreement via the Courts somewhere. Hopefully someone can point you in the right direction.

There are 47 Dunleavy entries in the Glasgow ER for the period 2002-2014 including females and those aged 18. There will also be an unknown number of people who have opted out of the commercial roll.

Unless a descendent knows the name of the love child, it's highly unlikely that they will come forward and identify Charles' father. His contemparies who might have known may well have died by now.
Is Charles a family name? Might that also be a clue? One must remember that Charles, the Prince of Wales was born late 1948 which might have influenced the choice.

As this thread is on an open board which can be viewed by non-members, you may wish to consider editing Charles' date of birth. Oct 1949 should suffice.
...........

You don't appear to have your father's name on your tree - with his permission you really should add it just in case a curious Dunleavy searches this site. The same applies to your grandmother.

Have you contacted any of the other members on GR who list male Dunleavy's on their trees born in Glasgow? How about repeating the search but omitting a place of birth. Send a message to anyone who has a Dunleavy who was born in a Scottish town/village. If you intend to make contact, just ask if he would have had 4 children by 1949, NOT if he could have fathered a child out of wedlock.

There are three people listed in the Scottish Records born between the years of 1915 to 1925 registered by the name of Charles Dunleavy.

One was born in Glasgow in 1916.

There is a person showing a Charles Dunleavy listed on GR with the same place & DOB.

If you decide to make contact please be very careful how you make an approach because if this is the correct person then they may have no knowledge of your father's existence & it may come as a shock to them

Doug.
