David, I am sure Gill would love to hear from you and compare notes but it is very unlikely she would come upon your message.
Try clicking into her name and sending her a message that way as her queries are nearly 4 years old. If she is still a member of GR she will be notified that you have messaged her.

Yes this is the right family you have found and no, I don't know who Mary married, that would have been a great help. If I knew the name of James son that might help too.
Thanks for your interest.

Richard,
I got the date wrong, I should have looked it up about Titanic instead of thinking I had it right. James must have gone in 1912. I only know Mary went to Canada but whilst looking for information on all of them there I found most of their names on passengers list but as I am not on World membership on Ancestry I can't view properly & there are a lot of McDougalls on those lists. I have an address in Vancouver from 1973 for James' wife and also for one of his married daughters which I found in my mum's address book (she died 23 years ago, how I wish I was interested in family trees then) Both have died long ago. I also have a photo of the family but no names on it.
Thanks,

Gill

Just curious gill.

The agnes born c1892 on the 1901 cencus, Did she not go to canada.
Her age could tie in with the agnes on the 1916 canada cencus, On that it states she emigrated to canada in 1911.
If you know that agnes stayed in this country then i am completely wrong.

The titanic by the way sank in 1912, so surely if james travelled on the next available ship it would been before 1919.

Just putting the idea out there.

Yes that is the family, Thomas was my grandmother's brother, she & my grandfather took James to the ship, so I wondered if his parents, or at least his father had died. The story goes that he should have gone on the Titanic but that story is too involved to write here. He went out on the next available ship but I don't know which that was.
Thank you for your help.

Thank you Richard. The name & birthplace fit but he would be with his sister Mary. I think Mary's husband was born in Canada. I know he was a civil engineer and was involved in building bridges.

James McDougall b. 1900 in the Glasgow area, Scotland emigrated to Canada around 1919. He married Elizabeth 'unknown' in Vancover and had four children, three girls & a boy. I only know one girl was called Elizabeth (Betty) her married name was Drewry. James was one of 7 children, Mary b.abt. 1889 emigrated earlier and married, James went to live with her in Vanccover.
