Gaylene

Yes the son was Chas John, as mentioned.

They appear to have had no other children. I can't see a remarriage for Sarah. It is possible the age is wrong but if that's the case then the age on immigration is also quite wrong (more so than usual!)

BUT if Chas John is your connection I am inclined to think this is the right George as Campbells Creek is close to Castlemaine.

You can only see the inquest at the reading rooms at the state archives. Maybe try a volunteer at www.raogk.org who can get there on your behalf?

John Lewis is a very common name and I don't fancy my chances. Just to clarify tho - he moved to Tasmania when he was about 80 yrs old?

Gaylene Report 29 Mar 2010 09:42

I am not sure if there is a connection
I am also looking for an immigration
John Lewis 1861 not sure if that was what would be on the immigration papers
from UK to either NSW or Vic before Tasmania 1941-42
thank you so much Gaylene

Linda Report 29 Mar 2010 07:59

Hello Cherilyn

I am looking for some information on the Brownhill Family.
William Thomas Owen married Isabel Brownhill in Australia. I do know that they had a first child Gwen Kathleen born approx1931 in Australia and then they returned to Britain and continued to have more family. I am interested in finding their marriage and then the family of Isabel Brownhill. I understand she was born approcx Dec 1903. I do not know her parents names but understand that other members of her family included the names. Robert, William, Cyril and Mary. Unfortunately I do not know where in Australia they may have lived. I realise this is a very long shot but if you were by any chance able to find the marriage or parents of Isabel Brownhill it would be great.
Many thanks Linda

Hi Gaylene

The only SLY in the hospital records is a John SLY aged 29 and single, a mariner, in Jan 1862 to Maryborough & Districts Hospital.

There is a death for a John SLY aged 29 in 1862, born Middlesex but unfortunately parents unstated.

There is a birth of a son to a George SLY and Sarah WILSON in Campbells Creek , Vic in 1856 (Chas John, reg 5895).

A George SLY died in 1859 in Vic, aged 46, parents unknown (reg 8972). Could that be him???

There is an inquest for this George; he died in Castlemaine after a fall from his horse. Ref 1109.
