Thanks for looking Cherilyn,

No - we don't really know when he died. In one of the letters she wrote she described very large bushfires so I wondered if maybe he was killed in one of the fires. I have found quite a few Alex Rae deaths but no way of knowing which might be him. If the 1917 one is her she certainly lived to a ripe old age - she was born in 1829 in Marylebone, London

Cheers,

Jane

Hi Jane

Sorry - I amlost missed your post completely!

I can't find a death for Olive. Do you know when her husband died?

Nor can I see her arrival.

Unless... this is a mistranscription of ROE for RAE?

11636/1917 ROE OLIVE R CLARICE MARRICKVILLE

Hi Sally

Yes Thomas married Annie McSween in 1891 in Vic (reg 3632). He was born in London and she in Geelong, according to the reg, but I can't find her birth. She is not the one born in Alberton (dau of Kenneth & Mary). Most of the early McSWEENs were around Belfast (Warrnambool/Port Fairy), or Amherst/Maryborough. There is one who was near Ballarat, also a mining area - Angus & Mary (nee McNEIL), but the earliest birth for them is 1864.

Sadly both children died young.

Charles Wm DENLEY b. 1892 in Melbourne South (reg 34655), died in 1893 aged 13 months (reg 15354).

Henrietta b. 1899 in Melbourne South (reg 4642) died that same year, only days old (reg 2866).

There is a death for a Thos DENLEY in Brunswick in 1916 aged 54. About 5 years out but can't see any others.

Was Thos related to a Wm DENLEY, born London, who died in Victoria in 1863 aged 30? (reg 2248)

Do you know of any spelling variations?

Hi Kym

I assume you are looking in the hope that she is still living?

Pretty tricky...

You could try the Salvation Army family tracing service (just google it), or ABC TV show 'Can We Help?' may be willing to do some research.

Good luck, sorry I can't offer more.

Hi John

The headstones may have children's names listed. Try a volunteer for Qld at www.raogk.org

From there you will need to try whitepages or place notices in newspapers for the area.

Good luck!

Cherilyn Report 14 May 2010 08:11

Hi Margaret

I assume this was fairly recently (ie on the last 10 years)?

There are 2 J Tobin's in the Ballarat area in the telephone directory - www.whitepages.com.au/wp

One is in Alfredton and one in Wendouree.

Have a look and see what you think.

Alternatively contact the Army Reserve as I imagine this is what the notice would be in regard to.

8th/7th Battalion,
Royal Victoria Regiment,
Ranger Barracks,
Cnr Sturt St and Ring Rd
Ballarat VIC 3353

Hi Cherilyn

As per my post, http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1221198&jump=6990254#6990254 wondering if you would have any luck with searching for an Edna May King (nee McKenzie) born Casino, New South Wales in 1934 or 1935. Unfortunately that is all I have for the moment.

Many thanks.

Jane Report 13 May 2010 10:22

Hi Cherilyn,
Thanks so much for your hard work. I have an Olive Reynolds Amor born 3 Oct 1829 Marylebone. She had a son, Charles, before marriage and emigrated to Australia where she married an Alexander Rae in 1858 in Newcastle, NSW- I found that ref. Her son Charles was renamed Charles Rae but he died in 1857 in Maitland NSW as did another little child called Olive. I have searched NSW and Queensland as far as I can for a death for Olive or, possibly, a remarriage but she seems to have totally disappeared so was wondering if she came down to Victoria or Tasmania? Also, I cannot find the ship she came in, either, though we have a letter from her to her sister in England in the 1850s so we know she came after 1851 and before 1857.
Thanks Cherilyn,

Jane

Hi William

Unfortunately I am in the same position in regard to the privacy laws.

I can't see their deaths on Ryerson Index but are any of these Qld deaths a match?

Year/reg Name Father Mother
1943/64420 William John Scott / Joseph / Annie Roberts
1941/3444 William John Scott / Thomas / Isabella Jane Johnston Campbell
1963/2059 William John Scott / William / Mary Jane Russell
1942/57094 William John Scott / Thomas / Annie Lincohn

Nothing for Ivy. Can't see them in NSW or Victoria either.

If you could find a death notice or death certificate if would list children's names.

?

Hi John

Sorry I can't find any sign of them. Full names would have been helpful but in this case I don't think it will lead to anything.

Wish I could offer more.

Kind regards
Cherilyn
