Hello again Lisa..don't take Joseph off his parents!!......he would simply have left home and gone off to work.....if you look for him specifically on the later census..I'm sure you'll find him..........unless he died.......but it would be a mistake to remove him...he was definitely there in 1841.....

John and Isabella later moved to Nottingham......

Don't waste your time going to matlock until i have sorted more things out.....no point if you don't know what you're looking for.
You no longer have a confusion..you ask me..and i remove it:_
One thing is certain..John Stanyard born in Leicestershire..went off looking for work.....met and married Isabella..then later moved to Nottingham.....a very common story..you went to where the work was.

AS for the later Denman stuff.I'll get onto it.

Derek.

Hi Derek.

Thank you for confirming to whereabout John born and I got two different places where he was born on censuses! So it is a confusion I have got and not sure which is right!! I have removed Joseph off their line.

Could you any chance find out anything going on with their changing of surname to Denman? It was happened around 1890 then my great grandfather's surname was Denman not Stanyard... Frederick Stanyard Denman (1904 born in Marpool, Heanor, derbyshire) and his father's name was Frederick Horatio Stanyard (1860 born in Chesterfield). So Denman was from Frederick H's mum Celicia Denman who born in Southwell Nottingham, and I couldn't go back anymore further as well so I assumed that you dont have Nottinghamshire Parish?

And other one I am trying to find out is.....

John Stubbings of 1828 born in Derbyshire married to Mary Ann Maude Garton born in 1839 in Allestree, Derby. I cant go any further for his parents. Mary's father Thomas Garton 1819 born in Allesstree and can't go any further!

Thats why I am preparing to go to Derbyshire record office in Matlock.

Thank you.

Lisa

Hi Derek, Susan and The Meerkat,

I think the Gregson men needed some Bromide - either that or there was something in the water in Longford!!

I have asked my daughter to take me the Lichfield asap as I'm curious about the wills and what and WHO they may contain (especially Henry's), so as soon as I can I'll be back in touch with what info I can find out.

Thank you for your prompt response Derek. The information ref Samuel Barnes came from another tree user so may be incorrect. The information on the other tree gave the same details as I already have from Abraham (c1791) (son of Samuel) and another Samuel (1839) grandson of Samuel. Thank you again.

Hello Lisa.........JOHN STANYARD's birth was registered at Loughborough leices 1817..son of Ellen and Tom Stanyard
1841 shows him at Chesterfield with Isabella and children Joseph and herbert.......but he is shown as being born "In County"..i.e Derbyshire..which is wrong..probably a mere slip of the pen............

By 1851 they are still in Chesterfield..but now John is from Loughborough..they have more children, including Herbert, but not Joseph..the clincher that i have the right family is the confirmation that Isabella is indeed from Matlock..and they have staying with them son and daughter in law...by the name of BUNTING.

Not sure how much you want to know..or indeed do know...so if i can help further, let me know.

Derek.

I've also come across this baptism on the IGI

Hi Derek.......so sorry to bother you again after we have almost driven you crazy with the Gregson saga.

I am reviewing the information I do have and trying to confirm what I can.........for my own peace of mind

I am going to order the marriage cert for Mary Ann Twigg & James Gregson (1815) to confirm his father as Charles

I will also get the birth cert for Mary Ann Gregson, daughter of James and Mary Twigg to confirm her mothers birth.

I am absolutely certain that Mary Gregson or Grigson married James Rutland. by the copy marriage cert......I am not sure were James birth would have been registered.
Census show he was born in Longford..........in 1885.
Where would the registration district be for this area in 1885??? Would it be registered in Wolstanton, Staffordshire

I am 99.9% sure that the brother of my great grandfather James Rutland was John Thomas. He was born in Sharrow Hall, Thurvaston in 1887, 2 years before my gg father. I have a copy of his birth cert showing Mary Ann Gregson as his mother but would like to get a copy of James birth cert as well.

Sorry to be a pain........... :-(
Susan

Hi Derek. I have been given your details by Chris 2394 as someone who can possibly help me find some information. I'm looking for the ancestors of Samuel Barnes born 1741 married to Mary Bateman born 1745 one son Abraham born in Crich Derbyshire in approx. 1791. If these dates are correct, Mary would have been 46 when she gave birth to Abraham. Not impossible but unlikely.

Many Thanks

Hi Derek

Leigh/Mollard marriage.

Last weekend I asked if you could help with a look up for the above marriage.
Please don't spend any more time on this . I took the name Mollard from a birth cert, of one of her children. As neither of us had been able to find the marriage in Derbyshire or Cheshire I wondered if she had been married before. She has, Mollard is her maiden name but she married a Britland before she married John Leigh. Unusually they didn't include both names on the cert.

So thanks again for the time you have already spent.

Hello Derek, Barbara and The Meercat

My brain is completely messed up with all these Charles' and their naughty goings on....... need a stiff drink and its only mid afternoon.........

Meercat....Thank you so much for finding details of the elusive Charles 1729. At least we now know he did exist !!!!

I will await Barbara's findings from Lichfield and of course the comments of our super sleuth, Derek.

In the meantime I will go ahead and order copy certs for those I am pretty sure are mine just to double check.........Might just be wrong

Don't forget there is a Charles Gregson baptised 26/12/1727 father is Charles
at Longford.
There is no early death record at Longford for him.

Derek Report 24 Oct 2012 22:21

hello Barbara,,just a word of caution......we are assuming simply by ages..that it was Charles 1744 who married Elizabeth Brindley in 1768..and that it was Charles 1729 that married Mary Longdale in 1761....which is I think a fair assumption now we have a confirmed baptism for Charles 1729 and that he actually existed...........but what fun if it were the other way round!!.....
It means that you can now adopt Henry Gregson and Mary nee North as your Charles' parents............and Susan can't..........But \i can sort that out easily enough.......and i will definitely find a connection for Henry who married Mary North and one of the two Charles's......

Hi Derek, Susan and The Meercat

Well - my head is spinning with all the info re Lusty Charles (senior and junior!) and the rest of the Gregson tribe. Apologies for opening a can of worms lol ......

I have checked Lichfield Record Office for any Gregson wills and have found 2 noted on line for Ann Gregson 1670 of Ashbourne and Henry Gregson 1694 of Longford. I'll be going up to Lichfield in the next couple of weeks and will check them out to see if there are names that match with the ones that we know of.

Thank you for confirming that the details for my Mary's parents were correct with Charles 1744 and Elizabeth Brindley. I will wait to see what else comes up (pardon the pun!) on Charles 1744 lineage, and of course the elusive Charles 1729 :)

Regards

Barbara
