Derek, Bottle of Scotch if you can find the death of Mary Wood, widow of Joseph, in Glossop or Hadfield 1851-1861. You said she was "apparently" buried in Glossop in 1861 - but where did you find that please.

Hi Sharon..interestinger and interestinger..you say John Sweeting was born Draycott 1841.ish............
I have his parents WILLIAM SWEETING..(1819 Doncaster Yorks) and ANN nee COPSON..with plenty of kids..seemingly born all over the place!....
I have them on the 1841 Census......I have them on later censuses..but in 1851 JOHN SWEETING is missing!!..because he is with Isaac and Sarah in Horsley!!
Like you..I cannot for the life of me see how he can be a nephew..he would have to be the son of a sister of Isaac Parker..or the son of a siister of Sarah carr..eith of whom married a Sweeting......
But apparently John's mother is Ann nee COPSON................OR!!!..did Isaac and Sarah take in John Sweeting for some reason and call him their nephew for legal reasons............not unknown
If you look at the 1841 Census Isaac and Sarah may have already done just that....they have a ten year old child LOIS HARRISON.a bastard child of one Mary Harrison......but being the 1841 census there was no need to show a relationship...........
John Sweeting went on to |mary Elizabeth Ann Ward and have several children in Nottingham...........funny though how one of john's siblings and one of his children was called ISAAC.......
TTFN!!

Hi Derek
Sorry don't know James Hutchinson's age at death but the one I'm interested in I have as being born in Derbyshire in 1766. There's one on the 41 census living in the Shardlow district aged 75 which fits his age, am hoping that if you find the records it will give you the names of others in the same grave, which might help me.
Many thanks
Kath

Hello Sharon..I misunderstood your original message..not reading that you wanted confirmation of hat you gace me...
Yes your dates are fine..though i cannot find a birth for Sarah Carr (Car)..except at East Sterndale 21.12.1817..daughter of Hugh and Martha.
Isaac Parker appears to have been baptised at Duffield 08.07.1810.son of Richard and Martha...and on the 1841 Census he is living with Sarah..and Head of household MARTHA WHITE....which I take to be his mother since re-married....
The Duffield registers are a bit of a mess, with chunks missing..and although Isaac's baptism appears on IGI he does not appear to be on the copy of the PR Baptisms that I have.....
As you will have noticed...I intend to return to Matlock..possibly this Friday..when i'll try to concentrate on the Duffield registers.......of which Milford.allegedly the birthplace of Sarah Carr...
Derek.

Morning Derek, Thank you for looking. I have the following children from both marriages .
With Mary I have : Martha 1825, Henry 1827, Thomas 1829, Edwin 1831, Fanny (later census called Frances)1833, Elizabeth 1835 and Lucy 1837. Then I take it Mary died so marriage to Sarah took place (I have neither of these dates)
With Sarah : Frederick 1842, Francis 1844, George 1848 and Mary 1850.
Thank you
ps I stifled a giggle when I read Measham :-D

Derek, this was on your old thread, have moved it here.
Want the death of Mary Wood b abt 1805, Hadfield. Found as widow in 1851 in Glossop but no sign in 1861. Her maiden name was Wild. Her husband Joseph Wood has no known death, but not worried too much about him cos he wasn't the father of my ancestor, her illegitimate first child.
Derek Report as Abuse 24 Jul 2011 22:43 Hello Margaret..have been in Scotland for a week on holiday... This mary Wild thing is bugging me a bit because \i have done quite a bit of work on this..and if it's not for you then i don,t know who it was for.....\howver, here is what \i have..and \i've not been to \matlock ofr a while..so I'll not confirm it till I go........
MARY WILD born Padfield Glossop 08.06.1805 baptised there 09.07.1805........married ROBERT CROSSLAND (born 28.07.1800)..and had one son JEREMIAH CROSSLAND 1827-1891 Robert died 1831 She married JOSEPH WOOD 27.02.1831..witnesses Thomas Wood and Robert Winterbottom....and had three children..Robert 1836..James 1839..Betty 1844-1901.......no suggestion that any of them were illegitimate...but then my information is partial....including the death of Joseph at Glossop April 1851..have found her and Joseph on the 1841 Census at Glossop with Robert and james.........and again.in 1851 living with a large family as a "relative" with Robert and Betty..............she was "apparently " buried \g\lossop 1861 aged 56...
Hope this helps a bit.......
Derek xx Derek, very interesting. You have no right going on holiday, but I was on holiday too.
Your searching was clearly for me. A few questions. Where did you find all this if not a Matlock? Do you have a marriage date for the marriage to Robert Crossland, cos according to me Jeremiah was baptised Wild on 3 Feb 1828, though on his marriage he states his father as Robert Crossland. Me and my cronies have not located a marriage to Robert Crossland. Robert continues life as an apparent bachelor until his death after 1861, possibly died 1865. I have no death record in 1831 as you suggest.
Yes,Mary married Joseph Wood, we didn't have the exact date, thanks. Yes, the three children are correct. Didn't find Joseph's death in 1851, ta. Nor Mary's death in Sep Qtr 1861. So where is she on the 1861 census?
My rellie who is really interested in this branch likes facts and references, if you have any please.
Please give it a shot Derek, we have run out of ideas.
Margaret

Hi Gooner..have battled with this for a while..I don't have the Church Broughton Parish Records..............so I'll have to go to Matlock to view them.
That's ok cos I am due a visit..probably next week.
One or two problems I have encountered..using IGI....there are only Submitted entries..a marriage in 1829..no dates........I don't believe this because the 1841 Census shows loads of kids with the first three being born before 1829............and there is another SUBMITTED record showing Mary Chamberlain marrying Francis Allen 13.10.1825..which fits..and Martha 1825 is the daughter of Francis and mary.......I haven't looked at the others.......
The 1841 Census..as you probably know shows Francis with his kids in CB.he is a farmer.........
1851..1861..1871..show him as a Butcher in Walsall West Midlands...and married to Sarah Ann.......
I'll have to get back to you. EDIT..I suspect that Mary Chamberlain was born Measham..1805 dr of William and Sarah....cos \i can't fins any other birth record.. Derek.

I wonder if you have the death/burial records for Shardlow, if so can you have a look for James Hutchinson who is recorded on freebmd as dying in the first qtr. 1847.
