Hello Gemma - it's a good few years since Sue C posted on this so she's probably not checking for replies.

You could click on her name to send a direct message.

Sue C - This above entry is also showing on my family tree, some generations back. Please can you confirm where you found the information above re; marriage as I was struggling to find Ann's surname and also queried the age. Did you find any other information on this?

Regards
Gemma :-D

Thank you Flo, that looks pretty likely for the 1841 Daniel age 25. Father's name is correct.

Thank you Roy,

Still not sure whether the parish records for Dukinfield have survived, but will give the Chester & Cheshire archives a ring on Monday to find out.

Thanks again

Thank you Florence, I am sure there is something wrong somewhere.

Trouble is, either way he was born prior to civil registration and I am having trouble trying to find out where parish records for Dukinfield Cheshire are held

Sue C, yes i no there is a big gap in their age but still thought it worth saying

plus people did tell porkies about age when their was a big gap between the age of them and their spouse

Roy,

Even rounded down up "or in any direction" from age 25 in 1841 to age 56 in1851 seems a bit of a leap to me.

Don't forget that on the 1841 census ages for adults were rounded down to the nearest 5 so someone age 29 would be shown as age 25

Daniel Garside married Ann Veevers in Manchester in March1841. He was a stone mason of full age, father William occupation potter.

In 1841 census Daniel is in Hulme Manchester, age 25 born out of county with wife Ann & his occupation is stonemason. Have looked at the image, and it clearly says age 25.

By1851 he has aged somewhat if it is the same man!! His age looks 56 on the original.
