Trying to find further details of William Leach Street b1824 Wiltshire. I currently believe that he married at least 3 times to Phoebe Butler, Martha ? and Margaret Cull and had 9 children between the wifes.

They being

Wiliam Leach Street b1851
Phoebe Emma Street b1849
Jane Street b1855
Martha Street b1857
Ellenora Street b1852 (I have full details of Ellenora as this is my family)
Charles Street b1867
Gladstone Street b1868
Daniel Street b1870
Louisa Street b1871

If anybody has details of these people other than Ellenora I would be gratefull for info.

regards

Have you bought any of his marriage certs for his fathers name and occupation? What info have you already got on the children. What census/marriages etc?

Alan

No Not his directly. I have marriage cert of Ellenora Street which list her Father as details above with occupation of Harness Maker.

I have census records of 1851, 1861,
1871, and 1901

I am in Australia and cert. are expensive to purchase from here so am very carefull about purchasing

How did you find the names of the likely brides?

Alan

Alan Report 28 Oct 2008 23:58

The census details list different wifes first names and searching through the free BDM for William Street, I then made an assumption of the wifes surnames by just picking first name and locations that match.

Righto, thought you had bought the kids birth certs.

Well this is the GRO ref for the marriage to Phoebe - they married in Wilts then. Is she your direct ancestor? If so this would be the best cert to buy as it would also give you her fathers details.

This looks like William in 1841 - dad is a smith. The parish comes under Alderbury (where he married) Age rounded down to nearest 5. The marriage cert would confirm his fathers details so you could go backwards from there.

Alan

Certiifcates ordered online from www.gro.gov.uk cost £7 .............. not a lot of money to prove family connections!

You should NOT pay any more than that amount to anyone.

Hi Alan,
Both William and Pheobe were baptised in Nom-conformist chapels in Salisbury. I'm pretty certain that that your Davis G-Grand father was born in St Martins in the Field workhouse. My Grand mother was your grandfathers sister.

It is quite possible that John is not checking for replies after such a long delay Alan. Try clicking on his name and sending your message that way. If he still has the same email address he will be notified. Cx.

Aoan,
I don't think that the four childen mentioned in the 1871 census are genuine people. The only real child was Martha. I think that William Leach street and Martha White had been drinking. The will of the father only mentiond 'his children five; all of which were Pheobe's.
