Hi, this might be a long shot as I haven't actually sat down and looked at the little bit of data I've got, but my grandfather was christened James Dukinfield Wilde in Australia and his father was James Wilde. Wilde migrated to Australia with his wife and it gets a bit shaky from then. Looks like he did something scurrilous because he changed his name to James Boyd. His son William Boyd then served in the AIF and fought with the Anzacs at Gallipoli and was wounded. He was shipped off to hospital in England and there is a letter from James Wilde where he has written to the authorities asking for whereabouts of his soldier son in which he says the boy's real name is William Wilde and that he is well connected in England but doesn't know it.
If you are interested I could overcome my laziness(!) and give you more detail.

given John's middle name this one looks like a good one for the marriage

this could be a good one to get the birth cert to give you his mmn.
Births Dec 1874
Wilde John Hillary Ashton 8d 519

The middle name seems to make it the only one possible whereas the others could have different parents. From Chesshirebmd he was born in Dukenfield

This looks like the birth of their youngest daughter on the 1881 census:-

Name: Mary Elizabeth Wilde
Year of Registration: 1880
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
District: Stockport
County: Cheshire, Lancashire
Volume: 8a
Page: 96

This certificate would give you Elizabeth's maiden name, but I think this could by James and Elizabeth's marriage:-

Name: James Wilde
Year of Registration: 1871
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Stockport
County: Cheshire, Lancashire
Volume: 8a
Page: 90

Also on the same page is Elizabeth Oliver.
