Trying to find Gillies/Lock mid 1800's

Dutchie Report 1 Oct 2008 10:24

I am searching for Alexander Gillies, a mariner, (b. probably in Scotland in the early 1800's, died probably between 1864 and 1881), married to Agnes Lock of Countisbury, Devon, UK (b. 1820, d.1897 in Countisbury). They had four children

Jessie Annie (b.1857, d.1861),
Alexander Thomas (b.1860, d.1861),
John William (b.1860, d.unknown),
Agnes Alexandra (b.1864, d.1927).

Jessie was born & buried in Countisbury, Agnes Alexandra in London. I haven't found a birth certificate for the twins but from later census information on John William he was born either in Swansea, Wales, UK or Scotland.
I also haven't found a baptism, marriage or death certificate nor census information for Alexander Gillies. The number of potential Alexander Gillies' in Scotland born in the early 1800's is just too big and I am looking for clues to narrow the number down. Any ideas are more than appreciated.
Also I haven't found any trace of his son John William Gillies, his wife Lavinia Milton and daughter Helen (b.1894) after 1901. There is a family rumor that they may have emigrated to Australia. Has anybody come across these names mentioned above? Thank you.
