Find Ancestors

Henry Pargiter was my gt grandfather. He married Sophia Rose Wood in Croydon on 21 March 1902.

Whilst I have quite a bit of info on Sophia, very little is actually known about Henry.

The only info I have is from the marriage cert - aged 27 at marriage, father's name Thomas Patrick Pargiter and his occupation was Slater.

Would be grateful for any info out there!

Who is the slater - Henry or Thomas?

he isnt comimg up on any records perhaps he wasnt born in theUK .
Do the witnesses help at all from the marrige cert

To answer your questions:

Both Henry & Thomas were slaters according to marriage certs and subsequent birth certs. Altho' on Henry's daughter's marriage cert in 1940 his occ was listed as carpenter. He's also down as "deceased" on daughter's marriage cert, altho' he is believed to have deserted his family.

My mother seems to think Henry was of Irish descent. Haven't been able to find much out, as these are purely vague memories.

With regard to witnesses, they were Edith Wood, Sophia's younger sister and a Helen Elizabeth Banks - I don't know who she is.

Henry Thomas was my gt grandfather as well and after 2 or 3yrs still remains an enigma.
Although I have established that he deserted after 1912 according to Croydon electoral registers.

I can answer the witnesses query, Helen Elizabeth Banks. She was in fact baptised Ellen Elizabeth WEBB b.1870 Tatsfield, Surrey and became WOOD when her mother Eliza Webb married Charles Wood(but haven't yet found this marriage certificate) and was therefore the eldest sister of Sophia Rose and Edith.

I too would like to crack then Henry Thomas story but not confident!!
