I am looking for relatives or descendants of Michael & Mary Joice (sometimes spelt Joyse or Joyce) both are shown as having been born in Galway, Ireland in 1841 & 1845 respectively. They appear to have come to England somwhere between 1861 and 1865, as they do not appear on the English 1861 Census but their first recorded child Mary was born in Sheffield, England in 1865. In 1871 they were living in Dolphin Street, Attercliffe Cum Darnall, Sheffield, also living with them at that time was Michael's cousin Michael McLoughlin born 1847 in Ballyfan, Ireland. Both Michael's are referred to as Coal Miners. After Mary, Michael & Mary went on to have the following children: Kate (possibly Catherine) born 1867 in Rotherham, Bridgit born 1869 in Rotherham, Patrick born 1871 in Sheffield, Thomas born approx. 1872 in Sheffield, Annie & Matthew born approx. 1874 in Sheffield (possibly twins), John born approx. 1879 in Haswell, Co. Durham & Jane born approx. 1881 in Castle Eden, Co. Durham. Bridgit is my great grandmother, she married twice, first to Martin Callaghan and then to Charles Crook, her sister Mary also married at least twice to Thomas Turner and then James Tymon or Tyson both spellings have been used in the Census. I don't have marriages for any of the other children. |
