Hi there, this is a complicated one! I am doing some research on behalf of my friend Carole Ann, born 22 Dec 1955, who was fostered within the first few months of her life and finally adopted by her foster family (Mr & Mrs Cheong) in 1956. Carole is trying to find any relatives of her birth mother but has drawn a blank because there appears to be confusion with regard to her surname. In all the paperwork Carole has managed to find, there is reference made to three surnames (Kent, Daniel and Roberts). However, we do not know whether 'Daniel' was one of her legal names because Doreen stated, in her agreement to the adoption, that George Victor Daniel (who was on Carole's birth certificate as the father) was not actually the dad, and that she was co-habiting with him at the time of Carole's birth. Carole was adopted in Stepney, London and her birth mother Doreen appears to have moved between several addresses in that area (one of them being 69 Cable Street, E1), before moving to Salford (10 Heath Road, Lower Broughton, Salford). All Carole knows about her birth mother is that there may have been other siblings/half-siblings which meant that her birth mother could not cope with another child. Carole's adoptive mother (Margaret Evelyn Cheong) was known to Doreen and the adoption process seems to have been very straightforward and to everyone's mutual satisfaction. Stephen Christopher Cheong (Carole's adoptive father) was a native of Singapore so we are hoping that someone may recognise these names and/or the situation of which I write, and have some information for Carole that may help her in her search. I am acting as Carole's researcher because she has already spent so much time looking into all this and finds the process very frustrating when all roads lead to nowhere, hence she was about to give up before I offered my services! Please, if anyone has any information and wants to get in touch, do not hesitate to contact me and I shall be happy to pass on the info you provide. If, by any remote chance, any relatives of Carole see this notice but you are worried about making contact, Carole will understand and respect your privacy - she just wants some more info about her mother (ie. date of birth) and, if possible, the identity of her birth father. Many thanks for taking the time to read this - Karen. |
