Hi

My 4xgreat grandparents George & Sarah Coombs had 4 children in 1812, 1817, 1819 and 1828. All were born in Holborn and Westminster, London. George and Sarah baptised their last child in 1830 at St James, Piccadilly. The last child being my 3xgreat grandfather William Thomas Coombs.

I cannot yet find a marriage of a George Coombs to a Sarah 1805-1812 in London at least.

George was a coachman.

I have no idea of what happened to George after William's March 1830 baptism, but I believe that Sarah later became known as Bradford. She was down as Sarah Bradford, aged 50 in 1841 census, so born c1791 with a son William aged 12, which matches the age and forename of William Coombs.

Geo & Sarah's eldest child Matthew George Coombs wed in 1835 and 1845. Sarah Bradford was a witness, and she also registered two of Matthew's relatives deaths in 1839 and 1845. His child and first wife. With all that, I am compelled to believe that she was the Sarah who was once wed to George Coombs but later became a Sarah Bradford.

The 1835 wedding of MG Coombs was witnessed by a James Bradford. In the 1841 census, a James Bradford, labourer, aged 49 was living round the corner from Sarah Bradford. He was born in 1792 in Surrey but didnt have a sister called Sarah or a cousin called Sarah. James wed in 1825 to Amey Coleman and their last child was born in April 1837. Amey then vanished off the face of the earth, no death ref, no 1841 census.

I cannot find any other James Bradfords in the area that would fit. If James was still married to Amey in 1835, why did Sarah Bradford become known by Bradford by 1835 instead of Coombs, or is it just coincidence that besides her surname, all of her details match that of Sarah Coombs?

Could she have been seeing James behind his wife's back and she took his name or was he a good friend???

Help please as I am in a quandry.

Thanks

Ben
