As Pearl didn't bother to acknowledge the info found 6 years ago, she is not likely to be looking now

Agnes Irving daughter of John Irving and Sally Ritson married Robert Boyle, a courier. She had brorthers John, George and William. John 1 was gardener at Rock Hall. John 2 was farm overseer at Colseburn Mains, William was a gardener at Kirkudbright. George was a wood/timber man and moved to America. William wrote a letter to George in 1841 and this account was included. I am working now with a cousin in Scotland to learn more about the Irvings. Hope this helps. Don Simmons
"Sister Nancy (Agnes Irving) is still at Preston Mill I know not whether you got the letter John wrote you or not concerning the untimely death of her husband Robert Boyle. ( Pigot Directory 1837-38 Robert Boyle carrier from Royal Oak every Wednesday) He was courier from Dumfries and on returning home from town a little below NewAbbey having to get off the cart his foot catched on a rope and threw him down and the wheel went over him. He died in about half an hour after and what made the accident more severely felt by many was her being confined of a son the morning after his death. Dear friends you cannot imagine the sorrowful sight it was to see the corpse lying in one bed and her newly confined in the other. I was down I ashure you I never saw a more heart rending sight, howeve thank God she is pretty well off as yet the parish lifted 60 pounds on the day of the funeral for her and put it into the parish bank where she receives interest on it. The youngest child died when about a year old. She has 6 living still the oldest is out of health and never able to work nor I believe never will. The next boy is working every day at Cavens with Lady Oswald. (CtrlclickCavens http://www.visitscotland.com/en-us/info/accommodation/cavens-p204541 The rest are at school."

There are several John Boyles in Scotland, 1841, of approx age.......none of the others appears to have a father named Joseph, although, of course, relationships are not recorded...........

Pearl Report 2 Aug 2008 19:50

Looking for the parents of John Boyle who was born in Scotland came to Lancashire when a young man and married in 1852 and lived in Sabden. His first child was born in Kirkubright then he returned to Sabden He had a son Andrew Smith Boyle who is my G. Grandfather. I know that John Boyle married Elizabeth Moorhouse. Johns father was called Joseph do not know name of mother.
I understand that somewhere along the line we are related to Tommy Boyle who famously won the Cup for Burnley in the 1920's I think I was told he was a cousin of Andrew smith Boyle
